Could Alduin be the Dragon Soul inside you?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 3:11 pm

I've been wondering something/discussing something with a friend of mine, that being: could Alduin be the Dragon Soul inside of the PC? As I'm sure you known the Dovakiin, or Dragonborn, is born with the soul of a Dragon. So...I keep thinking to myself that Alduin is actually inside--is the soul of--the PC. Does anybody else feel the same way?

Please, feel free to correct me (and put the theory to rest) if possible.

You mean like the horcruxes in Harry Potter? A peice of Alduin's soul is bound into Dovahkiin?

Alduin is a god, I'm not sure if he even has a soul.

No, a god can't be trapped inside us.. Ofcourse from a lore point of view, maybe 'possible', but from a Skyrim story point of view, highly unlikely.

It's so unlikely that I'd be willing to bet a thousand € that it won't be like this.

While I dont think its likely, I think it could be possible, and could probably make for some interesting story points if true,

Its been said that the dragon born is the gods 'loophole' to try and stop the reseting of the world, maybe they took a part of ALduin and chucked it into the dragonborn, so Alduin is not at his full strength and is trying to get the rest of his soul to fully consume the world

Do not read this if you don't want the beginning spoiled.
Spoiler
That could explain why he is possibly the dragon that attacks Helgen during your execution at the beginning of the game. (not confirmed, but the dragon looks exactly the same as this concept art of Alduin http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:SR-concept-Alduin.jpg

I don't know. From a Skyrim story point-of-view I think it makes sense and could work. I mean: Alduin's a deity Dragon; the main character is Dovakiin, or Dragon Born--someone born with the "soul" of a Dragon; your character, more likely than not, is tasked with defeating Alduin and the oncoming "Dragon Horde". Alduin, more likely than not, is probably drawn to your character later in the storyline and (highlight below to reveal spoilers)...

...maybe the beginning as well, if the speculation is true that it's him attacking the town during your execution. (It sure looks like Alduin afterall).

A lot of coincidence seems to be happening in Skyrim's storyline.

Sure. If you want to put it that way.

'sure looks like alduin'? Looks like just another dragon..

You have a theory and when you see something you immediately turn it so it matches your idea. Like pseudoscience. All dragon-born's have a soul of a dragon, but it's not a specific dragons soul we have. We can't have a god's soul as a dragon soul in us, because alduin is a god: not a dragon.

my personal theory is that maybe the dragonborn has half of alduin's soul, ripped in two at the moment of martin septim's summoning ritual. half remained in alduin's body, the other half would be stripped of its memories and pass through the cycle of souls to be reborn onto another person.
it's also my belief that because it is an imcomplete soul that the dragonborn can absorb other dragon souls, trying to become complete the dragonborn absorbs the souls of its kin to fill the void.

or something a bit different but still the same concept

the dragonborn has half of alduin's God's soul, ripped in two at the moment of martin septim's summoning ritual Mundus' creation. half remained in alduin's body, the other half became Lorkhan|Shor|Shezarr, his "same-twin at the other side of the aurbilical cord." Aka killed Lorkhan, whose soul would be stripped of its memories and pass through the cycle of souls to be reborn onto another person.

The quest wouldn't continue after you get rid of Alduin then as you'd need to die, either that or you couldn't use the dragon abilities since the dragonsoul inside you would be gone.

Nah I think the player was just lucky, or chosen, and the dragon soul is a random one.

That may answer your questions, or maybe not:

Spoiler

"Those who become Emperor and light the dragonfires are surely dragonborn - the proof is in the wearing of the Amulet and the lighting of the Fires. But were they Dragonborn and thus able to do these things - or was the doing the sign of the blessing of Akatosh descending upon them? All that we can say is that it is both and neither - a divine mystery."
