My thoughtsanolysis of the beginning

Then theres that (Censored) Imperial woman barking cheesy remarks and commands. (Call me sixist but i hate it when the female is in charge)

Agree with most of your points but really  at the above comment. Take it up to Bethesda who chose to portray the female captain in that light, or even better, take a good hard look at yourself mate, and ask why you are so threatened by women in leadership position.

Exactly! I'm a man, yet I don't mind at all if women are in the lead. Many of my stories I'm writing have women protagonists leading the crew/saving the day. I think one of them is a lisbian, even...

As for the tutorial: It seems a bit shorter than Oblivion's and a HELL of a lot shorter than FO3's. Not bad.

The comment about the female captain was a little unsettling indeed. For all I care' all the leadership positions in the world could be taken from the warmonger men by the less corruptable women.

I guess that Bethesda's nod to the lack of female guards in Oblivion.

1. Why are there spiler tags? This is a spoiler forum why wont people understand that?

2. Tutorial dungeons are neccessary for newcomers to the TES world, they need to master all weapons before they get themselves killed later with their noobness.

3.I have no idea what the leader of the stormcloaks was not being taken to Solitude instead to be executed, this looks too much like a set up to me.

4.The thief guy who got killed deserved it, what a coward, die like a man.

5.the female captain was hot, too bad shes dead now, well, I think she is anyway

I got rid of your spoiler tags since this is a spoiler forum. My answer is no it shouldn't be a big deal for the following reasons.

1.) Maybe he was tried and was sent there for execution. He was captured before you got on board. His name was on a list.
2.) It's a rebellion. They don't want to make a martyr out of him. Snuff him out and don't blow it out of proportion or his rebellion and it won't spread further.
3.) How would they show it if they did ship him to the capital?

I thought the intro was brilliant.

Well said...I can't believe I watched it but I absolutely loved the beginning and can't wait to experience it myself. It felt like an intro to a movie in the beginning.

Nice info, as I had no chance to watch those videos, thanks.

As for "Turorial Dungeons/Phases", I think that they are necessary, but there should be a way out, if someone wants to skip them.

The way out can be a bit subtle/hidden so that the at first we go trough the course, but after a few tries we can find that way out and be happy ever after.

Or the way out can be obvious, but give us a chance to return to the course, if we like it, and give us enough warning, if we are to pass a phase that there would be no coming back to the tutorial after that.

There always is a way out but that is for your 2nd, 3rd , or 4th character...just save it at the point right before you are given the last chance to make any changes. I may play the tutorial a few more times than I usually would to see the different reactons to races and you have 2 choices in the beginning on who to follow.

I agree 100%. I felt like it was a movie instead of a videogame.

As for Madame Captain? Well...maybe she lives so I can see her shocked face when she learns I had joined the Legion.

I'm quite certain that there will be an autosave at the exit to Skyrim that will enable you to skip the tutorial section.

I have done that in Oblivion, but when one is playing with different mods and adding/removing them, the save game might become unusable, and I have encountered this problem a lot, and had to go through the tutorial dungeon a lot.

That is why I have added a "Skip Tutorial Dungeon" option to "Pure Immersion".

I actually like the beginning I'm actually more interested in this main quest now than I ever thought I would be. The only thing I really noticed about the combat was whoever was playing it was really bad at it. Also considering whatever they were playing on wasn't the greatest and the videos quality wasn't very good it looked quite good to me.

According to the Unofficial Elder Scroll Pages (uesp.net) and IMDb, General Tullius’s chief lieutenant, Legate Rikke, is voiced by Claudia Christian. The female captain does sound like Claudia Christian, and if the character is indeed Legate Rikke, then she most probably survived to merit an IMDb mention.

(Claudia Christian is known among other things for having played Lt. Cmdr. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7_ypEX9Ma0 in Babylon 5. Hot she is.)

I actually liked the whole part with Ulfric being executed in such a remote village. It reminded me of the execution of Che Guevara, who himself was shot in a school hut in a small village in the middle of the Bolivian mountains even if the US wanted him interrogated in Panama (according to Wikipedia). So it doesn't feel so far fetched that the general Tillius would rather have him executed as soon as they caught him instead of risking the treacherous trip back to Solitude, even if maybe the Empire would've preferred to have him publicly executed.

And even if they might have used the isolated execution as a shortcut to avoid destroying a bigger town or any other technical reason, it does add to the sense of loneliness and isolation that makes up a lot of Skyrim's mood. A desperate attempt to escape from nowhere, getting one's baring for the first time in the middle of the high mountains.

And although I did enjoy the "Welcome to Morrowind, have a cookie and run along". I do have to admit that I saw the practical use of Oblivion's (and subsequent games) tutorial dungeons to give new players a better insight on the gameplay mechanics and maybe what type of character they might like. Although Fallout 3 had the best intro so that it did not feel to much as "Welcome to the Tutorial Dungeon! Have a cookie."

Im sorry. Its not just the female being a leader thing. Its just how she represented herself, like she was trying to act stronger than she really was. I blame the cheesy dialouge choice mostly.

How do you know she wasn't that strong...women can be warriors as well. Also, I didn't think the dialogue was cheesy...but that' your opinion and I have mine.

Just the way she said it. If it was a gruff Male voice than it would have delivered better.

What exactly did she say? IIRC, she said something like "Forget the list, he goes to the block."

It's not cheesy at all. It's stern, blunt, and to the point.

Cheesy would be something like, "You may forget that list, fellow Legion! I aim to render this one's head from his corpse! To the block!"

I was a bit disappointed at how stationary the animation was during dialogue, like they're just standing there, not using their arms or hands, which doesn't match the dramatic dialogue and mood.

The animation also looked kind of rough at some parts but I'm guessing that's video compression and bad quality.

I can't remember her saying that.

It would still be cheesy even if a gruff male was saying this.

Both are correct. The female captain's precise words were:
- Before character creation: "Halt! Archers! Anyone else feel like running?"
- After character creation: "Forget the list, he goes to the block."

I have to admit, that I am still perplexed by the fact that to me the captain sounds very much like Claudia Christian, but she should be voicing Legate Rikke. It could be that she does both, and the captain only appears at the beginning, or perhaps the captain gets a promotion, or I could simply be mistaken. But nevermind, I guess that will become clear after some weeks.

Oh, and by the way, I don't find the dialogue to be particularly cheesy. My biggest complaint would be that the shouts "Halt! Archers!" were perhaps not quite as loud and emphasized as what one might expect from a military commander (which might of course be difficult to achieve in a studio anyway).
