3079 (Futuristic open world indie RPG)

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 6:56 pm

Just seeing if anyone has heard about this new indie game, 3079. It's in alpha - and it's in the Indie Royale Alpha Bundle right now. Similar to Minecraft or Kickstarter - you pay, and it funds the guy to update it. You get all future updates free. Apparently he's been updating once every week, so far.

It's been covered a bit in gaming news, but it definitely hasn't blown up yet.

My interest was piqued when someone called it "Falloutcraft" because it shares artistic similarities to Minecraft (blocky, endless exploration) and Fallout (futuristic open world with guns).

http://sites.google.com/site/3079game/.

Note that it's cheaper to get the whole http://www.indieroyale.com/ (which comes with 2 other games. 3 days left to purchase) than to buy the game directly from the site.

Some screenshots are on the main page.

I bought the bundle, but haven't played too much. I walked around and couldn't find out what to do just yet (find a military leader, it said.)

As much as I hate to argue about "Minecraft Clones"... this is a java-based game with almost identical textures and very similar world generation.

All I needed to know is that it looks like Minecraft. Interest successfully piqued and lost within the space of one minute.

Yeah, I figured a lot of people would react like this. After playing it, it doesn't feel much like Minecraft at all. You don't build and dig, you run around and do quests and shoot people.

Well, I think you CAN dig, if you get a drill, and you might be able to build bases.

It's pretty rough around the edges, I have no idea if it's good or not. I'm gonna keep trying it and keep an eye on the updates

I just prefer a fresh look for a new game.

It's not that the graphics are bad, it's Minecraft's particular brand of bad that's off-putting.

When it comes to Minecraft inspired games, I'm looking forward to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBdrqH7mMzc&feature=player_embedded more.

It has a much better art style too, IMO.

I definitely have to agree with you there.

I will argue that it's a very different game from Minecraft (which some people here won't seem to believe) and from Cube World - but I never meant to infer that I thought it was better.

I don't like minecraft blocks. You don't have to have superb graphics but.... just not minecraft please.

I kind of like the way Minecraft looks. Debating giving this a go, the only thing that would turn me off, is if I couldn't build things like in Minecraft.

I would try the demo, then. I think it's fairly long (time limit rather than other restrictions).

It's supposed to be more of an RPG with quests, exploration, shooting people, collecting items (grappling hook etc) than a creative building sim like Minecraft. I think later you can maybe build stuff, but at first you're just wandering around finding stuff and whatnot.

Is it just me, or does it look like Minecraft? :bunny:

Crappy as the graphics are, the gameplay doesn't look too bad. Maybe I'll give the demo a try later.

I have no problem with a lot of old graphic/pixelated styles from days gone by, and I've tried to be open about the Minecraft pixelated Lego look, because the gameplay seems like fun, but for some reason I just can't make myself like it either.

Some textures seem to be straight out of minecraft.

Like I said I don't mind the cube style, in fact I really like it (I don't think it's 'crappy', I save that for low res 3D games in a serious setting).

Looks a little too similar for me, and my main thing about minecraft is building. Exploration/fighting can take a back seat.

Cubeworld looks awesome though.

This is just an overhaul mod for Minecraft, and people are paying for it...

I've said it above, and I'm not saying it's good, but to be fair, it's on a different engine, and the creator said he aimed to make the graphics darker. Plus, the engine he's using supports rounded edges and slopes and things like that.

Honestly, this kind of stuff happened with Terraria as well. It's more about the gameplay than the graphics to me. I feel like the game is really rough, but it COULD have potential.

Either way, I got it for like $1.50, basically (part of the bundle) so I'm willing to give it a chance.
