AppDataLocalid softwarerage TUTORIAL

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 6:45 pm

Someone clarify in this thread so others can use this method.

So I'm in:

C:\Users\**username**\AppData\Local\id software\rage

but no file ever appears there, is that the proper path?

Here is my launch options:

+com_allowConsole 1 +cvaradd g_fov 12 +com_skipIntroVideo 1 +fs_cachepath +fc_maxcachememoryMB 1024 +cg_usecompression 0 +cg_useprecompressedtextures 0 +image_usecompression 0

I'm using
Catalyst driver 11.9 and the "Newer" ATI Rage Performance driver

Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit
2gb ram
Radeon HD 5770 1gb GDDR5
3.6Ghz Intel P4 prescott 660 cpu

Not sure where this info is coming from, I have the same launcher string as you and I haven't seen anything in my appdata folder remotely looks like it was put there by ID or rage. is there a setting I am missing? I am Just launching it via steam. (yes Show Hidden folders is checked and Hide Protected OS files is unchecked)

bump. The game doesn't create the filepath, you have to manually, then the game generates a 1gb cache file for performance.

I know someone here knows how to do this and has it working, Please post.

you did it correctly - u need to go into a game and play and then exit. also, u messed up a cvar thats why - u typed +fs_cachepath but didnt put a path. either erase that line since it defaults to the right location anyway OR complete it like this: +fs_cachepath C:\Users\Username\etc...

^ Correct. You create the path manually. One thing different in your launch options from mine is the addition of +fs_cachepath. I didn't add that line in mine and my folder was populated with these two files.

These is some debate on whether or not this actually does anything.

I am running the latest ATI Rage Driver with V Sync forced on and I have nothing to complain about...

I have DEFAULT user (hidden file)
and ********* user (my username)

both have appdata local and i just put a folder in the one that was hidden (default) user

I added some more to my command line:

+jobs_numthreads 4 +mem_phymemblocksizem 3072 +com_allowConsole 1 +cvaradd g_fov 12 +com_skipIntroVideo 1 +fs_cachepath +fc_maxcachememoryMB 1024 +cg_usecompression 0 +image_anisotropy 16 +cg_useprecompressedtextures 0 +image_usecompression 0

I tried that, doesn't get rid of the freezing. Hope this works for someone.

my game doesn't create those files even though i made the folders...

i uninstalled 11.9 and newer rage performance driver, and reinstalled both...

now something went worse, it runs like it did before the performance driver... oh man......

not that it has EVER ran more than 15 frames a minute for me =/ game needs patch or something.

guess later i'll uninstall 11.9 and just do rage performance driver...

tired of driver sweeper/ccleaner/reboot/vga adapter driver install/reboot/ catalyst install

The game will create the file, however one of the devs claims it's only used when optical media is the source of game data.

If you go to that folder and enable NTFS compression on the file, you will notice it's size on disk go from 1 GB to 1 KB. It's actually filled with zeros. And it doesn't get repopulated with anything useful after getting made.

I used procmon and filtered on that file path, and Rage does occasionally query / open / close the file. Not sure if it doing that little bit without any actual use is enough to make a difference rather than just getting error codes back.

Either way, it seems rather dubious.
