Every time I play an Elder Scrolls game, I always make my main character... finish one questline... then want to move to a different character... I've only completed the DB quests and half of the companion quests and want to make a new character to be a battle mage... even though i made my character to be a theif and haven't even started the thieve's guild questline... should I stick with my first character until I've done all I wanted to or make my second character?

I think I am addicted to starting new games, but really I just want to get that perfect class for completing the game for the first time.

Do what makes you happy.

However, if you are afraid of getting bored, try exploring in a different direction with your main or your second character to keep things interesting.

If your enjoying your self, carry on. Don't let other people dicate how you should be playing, this goes for any video game. If your having fun doing whatever it is your doing, then you carry on for as long as you like.

There is no such thing as the perfect class.
Perfect is what you want it to be.

Sit down for 5minutes prior to starting and outline a few key elements of what you would like, Give yourself some rules (what you will and wont use) and throw in a small gimp into the mix. For instance, my current character doesn't use shields, instead I use destruction magic in that hand. It gives the game a different feel and requires a different approach.

Give yourself an obstacle to overcome, and when you do. Its very very rewarding.

I have this problem only when I want to play as alchemy master. I really don't find myself in alchemy and I've made maybe like 3 potions ever while playing any TES game so it's always misfire :P
But I think you should just take it easy and do with your character whatever you like, giving him very little restrictions. Like if you want to play thief just decide to go to Riften and find thieves guild if decide decide to become an archmage after that, be fine with it. Playing is supposed to be fun, not a responsibility :)

This!

Playing with Axe and shield combi really fits my playstyle. On purpose i didn't level my armor skill that much, so that using a shield ( that i did leveld a lot) is a must.

When a Giant hits me, its a 2 hit kill, but if i block with my shield i barely loose health.. Totally love it this way. The only problem i have is with dragons fire breath. Since shield doesn't work with elemental attacks form dragons. However, if a mage throws some elemental attackt to me i CAN block them with my shield.

I know how it is, I don't do it though but I get the idea of it.
You start as one type of character, and it's fun, it's really fun, but then repetition starts to set in as you explore the game and you wonder "How is a two handed axe wielding heavy armor toting warrior like?"
Doesn't mean that the first character is boring, just that the freshness is starting to wear off, and with a few click on the mouse/controller you can experience a completely different character.

I SO want to start a pure mage, but if I do that then I'll never be able to finish my assassin, so I'd say that you stick with your current character unless it's absolutely dreadful.

I always end up playing at least a 1/2 dozen characters and alternating them. Actually helps keep it fresh for me.

Still playing with the first character i made. No regrets yet. And i don't want the first playtrough to be perfect, so the second one can still be interesting.

I am doing this too... I made a pure mage, warrior and thief and did their respective questlines and many more.... Why do we do this?

I started a thief/archer, but seing the video of how strong stealth can become I may start again. I don't want the game to become boring because it's too easy. Not sure if I don't smith or enchant anything if stealth will become so overpowered?

Aah, the chronic restarter's syndrome. Very common in long games. I myself was afflicted by this horrible disease in the past. I still bear the scars, because I have several ideas for new characters gnawing at my mind, but I just ignore it and keep playing my main guy.

im starting a new one tonight, my plan is to see the content of this game spread over these 2 characters, rather than 1 super levelled dude..

plus i really wanna get up close and personal for a bit, rather than fireball stuff from half a mile away :flamethrower:
