Actually this really depends on the problems you are having. My PS3's HDD got corrupted at some point and I would constantly have to reformat it in the Recovery settings of the PS3. After doing this games would play great for a couple of weeks (like 2), but then problems would start to creep up again. The menu (XMB) would take a long time to load, games would take very long to load (especially if they had to read the HDD multiple times like Black Ops), and games like FONV would slow down HORRIFICALLY (I would have to wait in between going up and down on items in the Pipboy). Eventually I replaced the HDD and now it runs great! If the problems you are having sound similar to this I recommend replacing it, you can get an HDD for cheap on Ebay.
