I was pretty surpised to see http://todayentertainment.today.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/02/29/10540912-monkees-star-davy-jones-dies-at-66 on the headlines. :cryvaultboy:

Bummer. :( That is unexpected. I remember watching their oddball TV programme when I was a kid and it invariably cheered me up. RIP.

Yes. R.I.P....I saw the very first episode of The Monkees back in 1966....my teenage older sister was naturally crazy about them and especially Davy Jones.
I remember it distinctly...we were across the street at her friend's house watching it...they were all giggly and stuff.
I loved particularly the Monkeemobile, a customized convertible Pontiac GTO used in that show.

Never saw the television show (was before my time), but I remember his guest appearance on Scooby Doo and I like The Monkees' music. RIP.

That show pretty much started out as a joke and so was the band. Just trying to cash in on the Beatles and British Invasion. Funny thing is those four guys were actually talented and rose above the contrived beginning of the band and produced some pretty decent pop rock at the time. Stuff that actually endures 40+ years later. I'd wager a lot of "serious" artists today won't be able to accomplish that. RIP Davy.

WHAT?
Oh no oh no. He wasn't even that old yet. He was probably one of my first mad kid teeny-bopper crushes (via 70's reruns) & even now I'd occasionally check the 'net to see what he was up to. That scene in the '95 movie Brady Bunch made me LOL.

...another piece of my childhood gone. RIP Davy.

All I ever knew of him was in a 2 second frame where I overheard my mum on the phone to her friend saying "Did you hear Davy Jones is is dead? ... Yeah a used to fancy him as well! *laugh* Its a shame."
Thats all I knew of him, maybe a song or two but I don't know names to be sure. One rings a bell and I'm sure how it just goes, maybe - We're the monkeys! We like clowning around...." close?

Aww, a shame. 66 does not seem very old. That was a fun and funny show and some of the songs the Monkees put out were actually really good.
