After ALL the tweaking & Frustration - ground zero

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 5:24 pm

So after a Monday Night release @ 9:00pm, about 30 minutes of decryption, another hour or so of trying to just get the game playable to exit the Ark, then another probably 2 or so hours of tweaking before getting so angry I just went to bed - then waking up yesterday and before work trying MORE things to fix the 'texture popping', 'stuttering', and a few other GFX issues (no artifacting thank god), I'm basically back to ground zero.

What does that mean, it means that after all the "fixes" I've tried, and after having little to no satisfaction, I've reverted ALL my game settings AND driver settings back to their defaults, and I'm exactly as I've been since the start (minus key binds) and the game is working FINE, outside the annoying and unavoidable "Texture Popping" and "green/blue haze in darkness".

Assuming you work in IT, you'll know that simply undoing a setting in something isn't necessarily the actual way to "undo" it, nor is simply "unsetting" something from On to Off, however, after probably a day of complete anxiety and frustrating (due to a 3 year wait/build-up of anticipating RAGE and then hours of anger that it wasn't working like all the trailers I've seen) I am in this state, and sadly I've accepted it. Texture popping, ... isn't awful, it's annoying, but it's nonexistent in the "vehicle" modes, and the green/blue haze, again annoying but not game-ending.

So where am I?... about 4 hours into the game, enjoying it ***SPOILER ALERT SKIP THIS PARAGRAPH***
Just finished mutant bash/sponsorship and absolutely LOVED mutant bash, I wish it had more FPS and less "questing", I almost feel like I'm playing an MMO, with "instance" FPS, but I digress.

I hate the graphics bugs, but again, after all the frustration and tweaking, I'm STILL stuck at the texture pop and haze, .. MEH - I'm disappointed that the Mega-texture technology spoiled the PC version, and I'll tell you, this is BY FAR THE BEST CONSOLE GAME I've ever seen, the only problem is, I'm playing on a PC, not a console, and I want a PC (POWERFUL) version, not a console game. So, console version, A+ ... PC version, C+

Edit:
I made this a "technical" post because of the 'reset' of all my graphic settings, and lack of any type of improvement outside the removal of the occasional stutter, most of the textures still look 8-bit, but outside the personal preference, the game is "performing" fine regardless of settings.

Nice suggestion. After all the tweaking and frustration, I'll play Quake II: Ground Zero until the patch comes out. :P
