Enchanting, Reusable?

Understand how the basic enchant system works. Need to break down an item to learn the enchantment so it can be placed on another item. Question is: Are you able to "break down" the item you had enchanted so you can put the enchantment, say magic regen, on a better item? Enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.

Once you disenchant something you learn the enchantment permanently. Disenchanting an item you already enchanted just to learn the enchantment you already know by virtue of the fact that you had to know it to enchant with it in the first place is redundant.

Ok, thanks for the reply. Haven't actually enchanted an item yet and was under the impression that once you used an enchantment learned from an item the enchantment was somehow destroyed in the process. Thanks for teaching this old dog the "right" trick.

The game won't let you do it. You can only disenchant an effect 1 time. After that if you try to disenchant any item with the same enchantment the game will tell you that you already know that enchantment.
