I suspect it is a safe way to keep you from saving over a different character accidentally. Try loading

the save is is not there at all when i start a new game and it saves. i keep trying to load and its not there, maybe you just cant have mutiple characters? is it the because of the autosaves?, i know you can in fallout 3 have two or more characters. i would like some help on this. to try to fix this.

I know in Dragon Age you have to R1 over in the load screen to see other characters. Maybe try that?

I have the same problem. I had a 10 hour game saved for my Nord character and my girlfriend started a game as a Dark Elf earlier this evening and my Nord saves have disappeared :(

Is it a glitch or can you only have one character at a time on Skyrim?

I think the autosave is glitching and saving over whatever it wants to

anyone else haveing this happen to them, i think its because of the faq that it creates three auto saves maybe?. i think im going to just change user on the ps3 that works, but i wont have the same trophys witch is not good. but thats the only why i can have two at the same time.

Every time we change character we back up the most recent saves on USB memory so there is no need to play each character as a different user.

this is a totally a glitch. it is supposed to auto save a new character just prior to character creation. for me it instead did a full save on top of my other character's save file. i had just booted up my ps3, so i didnt have any auto saves to fall back on. i did it a second time to be sure, and it did the same thing, but i had auto save that time, so no big deal. had my friend on the phone to have him try it, and he saved twice before starting a new game. he didnt have the problem. so idk. either random glitch for some people, or just very specific conditions for it. this thread should definitely get a flag or something so this comes to bethesda's attention.

EDIT: the poster below me basically nailed it. Just make sure when you first start the game, dont save over the 'lvl 1 Prisoner' file, and when you make a new character, instead of going to new game, just load that file. you wont have to go through the cart ride into town, and no worries on save overwrites. its actually kinda cool that they did that when you think about it, but it can erase save data, so still qualifies as a glitch.

It sounds like at the begining of the game it makes a hard save in a given slot #. So its advisable not to overwrite that save.
