Building computer - Quick question

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 11:42 pm

I used to be big into computer building back in the early 2000's... and then I started to lose interest in computer gaming and went to console's for the most part. Now I am getting back into building a gaming rig and I am kind of out of the loop as far as what is good these days. I am about to buy the following parts and just wanted a little advice on if I am in the right direction:

Graphics: EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti Superclocked 1024MB GDDR5

Processor: Intel Core i7-2600K Processor

Memory: Corsair Vengeance Blue 16 GB DDR3 SDRAM Dual Channel Memory

Hard Drive:Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB SATA III 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache (SSD is too expensive)

Can get all that for about 820 bucks.

Oh and will a 500 watt power supply be enough?

1. Everyone on this forum has a normal life and don't exist just to help you. I, for example, just got back from work not that long ago and just finished eating my lunch.

2. 1 hour isn't that long of a wait time, be more patient.

I don't mean to be harsh, but just show some patience and don't bump.

A quality 500 watt power supply will do fine, but don't get a cheap one especially if you want to OC. Better yet, just get yourself a nice 600/650 watt one. The PSU is definitely not a part to be cheap on.

-I think you're being overcharged if that's all you're getting, judging from just ringing up your parts on Newegg

-Where's your motherboard?

-Where's your case?

-Where's your Operating System?

-Do you already have the necessary SATA cables and optical drive?

-Do you need an i7?

I am bascially gutting out my current PC and replacing all parts. Yeah, motherboard is a intel motherboard that can handle 2nd gen Intel i7, case already have, Windows 7 64 bit and yes I have all the cables.

In total will run me around 1000 bucks.

If all you plan on doing is gaming, then an i5 2500k will do fine. And 8GB of RAM would be good enough too. (Though with RAM so cheap right now, I cant think of a good reason not to get 16GB). An i7 2600k wouldnt give you any performance gains in games over a 2500k.

Like I said, for the parts listed in the OP, it looks like you are being slightly overcharged. Granted, it isn't much, but still overcharged. I'd also double-check your motherboard specs to make sure it supports LGA 1155 and DDR3 1600 memory.
