I cannot access any of the Total War games that I bought on

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 10:14 pm

Whenever I try to run my recently bought Total War games(there was an online sale on Steam for all of them at a very good price), I get a application error that says 'failed to find steam' and it is frustrating. Does anyone know how this can be remedied?

I have no idea if the below is important. But I think it may be related.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Apparently the game isn't compatible with a 64bit operating system. You could try running Steam with admin rights.

I just googled "Medieval 2 Total War 64bit" and got a ton of results from official and unofficial forums. This seems to be a common problem.

I have Win 7 64 bit and played Medieval II Total War just fine (not that I played it much), and Shogun 2 as well (played it for 170+ hours). Sorry, I know this is the worst kind of computer advice (I can do it why can't you?), but I'm just saying that it is possible. I never had to change any settings to get them to run.

No it isn't a common problem for Medieval TW2 but it's a problem to run Medieval TW (version 1.0) because it was developed under DirectX 7.0 in Windows XP and I've every TW-games except for Alexander.

The only thing I can think of is that the OP need to install http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=0A391ABD-25C1-4FC0-919F-B21F31AB88B7 and I know you can use .NET 2.0 but then you need to update and do so on every version to .NET 4.0, because Mircosoft didn't fix everything between different versions until .NET 4.0 was released. If you still have a problem with the installation then you're more than welcome in this http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1305493-total-war-discussion-3/, but I know how frustrating it can be when something don't go your way and you still want to have it working in no time.

Okay. Here is a simple solution if you can't install the game.

Delete your Steam ClientRegistry.blob file. This can be found in your Steam installation folder (for me it's C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam)

Let me give you an advice about installing Steam. Don't install Steam Client in any C:\Program Files(x86) related folder, because if you do just make sure you either have UAC on highest level and run Steam as an administrator or disable UAC.

I have UAC disabled and am running Steam as an Administrator and I have .NET framework 4.0...guess I will see you in that other thread when I actually have time to deal with this lol.
