Can someone (Mod, Admin) verify there is a steam patch out or not? People on the Steam forums are starting to report Steam has initiated a 4GB download ("patch").

I haven't tried that one but idSoft will be releasing the x64 exe to us soon. Along with the SDK.

the patch that Custos refers to is not 4GB in size, but a generic large address aware patch which is used to modify the 32-bit executables of various games in order to allow use of more than 2GB RAM.

If I understand correctly, id will be releasing a 64-bit executable which makes the 4GB LAA patch unnecessary.

In my case, no new official updates/patches have been initiated by my Steam client since Oct 3.
