My system has an Intel I7 2600K with onboard HD 3000 graphics. I also have an nVidia GeForce GTX 580 installed. I am running in what is known as i-Mode, where my HDMI cable is plugged into the motherboard, and LucidLogix Virtu software switches electronically to the GTX 580 when running 3D games. This has worked fine for all other games. I added Rage to Virtu’s list of games, but my experience with the game was as poor as everyone else’s.
I finally decided to switch to what is called d-Mode, where my HDMI cable is plugged directly into the GTX 580, and the Virtu software is not in the rendering path. Once I did that, the game ran absolutely perfectly. I removed all of the tweaks suggested by various forums, and everything still ran perfectly and looked great. I hope this solution also applies to some of you.
