Will a different MMO TES be possible after this?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 9:08 am

ok this is basically my main concern.

The game is going towards a different route than I have expected.
When I heard about Elder Scrolls online i tought about a first person game, with the fighting mechanics of the classical single player version.
All put in a multiplayer environment.
For sure it would not have the same ability to manipulate the environment as the single player game
And for sure characters would have a skill and level cap
But the rest would be the same.

Now, considering that TESO is a reality, is not as I described and is probably too ahead in developement to consider trashing their work and reworking it.
Do you think there is any hope to see in the not too distant future a game that incorporates the single player system in a mmorpg environment?

thats a great question. and i believe its all possible.
if you look at guild wars 2 you will see that its not even close to being the same game that guild wars 1 was.

but for now, lets be happy we get this opportunity to explore and adventure in tamriel as a whole! :)

No.

And I think this is the biggest tragedy about this. I have personally been waiting since Morrowind for them to create a multiplayer or co-op version of the Elder Scrolls games we have come to love. Instead we get this disgusting abomination and this has successfully snuffed out any hope for an Elder Scrolls MMO done in the manner that most in this community want for at least a decade.

We will not see another MMO or multiplayer Elder Scrolls until well after ES:O is officially shut down.
1: The failure of ES:O will show the suits that their community didn't want an Elder Scrolls MMO. (Which isn't even true, I think many of us want an Elder Scrolls MMO or at least some multiplayer functionality)
2: They will not create a competing online version of the Elder Scrolls while ES:O is on the market.

They should just can it right now, and start over from scratch. Create something true to TES gameplay.

They're not gonna can it. They will release it, the way it is now. Thought that was pretty obvious. It's an MMO, they don't want you to play it like you would a SP game.

That would be too innovative.

it does seem like its doing some good things for an mmo, its definitely not going to be like wow because of the lack of true holy trinity, and the hotbar will be limited but have more importance to individual abilities. very much like guild wars 2.

I see it as unlikely.

If TES:Online is a success, a subsequent version will most likely be similar [i.e. third person, non real-time, hotkey-ish combat].

If TES:Online is a failure, the Dev/publisher will probably come to a conclusion that a TES mmo is not desirable to customers.

Even more unlikely is if TES: Online is a success or failure, the subsequent version being similar to say.... Darkfall, or, you know, similar to, say, THE ELDER SCROLLS.

It will be possible, and more likely if this one bombs.

Therein lies the problem: the community, for the most part, never wanted an MMO. They wanted co-op and private servers. Those two things are mutually exclusive. However, co-op won't earn the franchise any more money, so they went the MMO route.

I agree with you. I know that personally all I ever wanted since the days of Morrowind was to be able to bring one or two friends into the world with me. An MMO was not a bad idea to me, but it just had to be done right, not this abomination.
