Question about Dual Wielding

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 7:17 am

So I was wondering if a dual wield character is viable or not, since the one I'm playing now is a one hand+shield user.. and I think that what pushed me towards this decision is the way you have to use dual wield..
I wanted to know how you guys use it, and I'm not referring as "I run up and fight", "I start from far with a bow and then run and use it as last resort", but I want some information about, literally, how you push the buttons.
To hit with the 2 weapons do you need to mash the triggers like crazy or is there some other way?

I use dual power attacks when i have stamina, and alternate swings depending on weapon types and enchants. For example, i'd use a mace in my left hand more against a heavily armored enemy more than the sword in my right hand. It's kinda random, but you have options.

its mostly used in stealth cuz of the 15x damage with daggers
but alone dual swords pretty much do alot of damage cuz it takes the damage from both and puts them together and when you compare that to how fast they are dual sword are deadly damage with the lack of defense of a shield also when you take the damage perks into account it gets crazier, pretty much dual swords are the most damage you could do with melee
so its either sneak or kill stuff as fast as you can

I do the ol right left right left, mix in a few power attacks if they block and always try to finish with a simultaneous hit from both weapons.

I've been playing a dual-wield/sneak/illusion "assassin" character and am finding that the duel wielding attacks depend heavily on the weapons that you use, i.e., start off with two swords and then maybe transition into daggers once you've got the perks for x15 stealth attack multiplier for daggers in the sneak tree. I've been trying to use daggers exclusively, but the damage is just too low in these early levels (1-10). Also, you might want to invest some points into stamina because the dual power attack (several rapid swings of both daggers) seems to be the saving grace of the style, which otherwise locks you in place as you do your standard dual scissor-attack. The dual wielding speed perks in the one handed tree help a bit, but i've yet to grab the dual wield damage multiplier above it.

The style seems to be focused on burst damage and stealth openers; i've been struggling against the fast and heavy hitting creatures like bears and trolls, and I recommend investing in light armor perks and the majority of points into health (maybe 3:1 ratio of health/stamina for dual-wield + light armored characters). Being able to withstand damage is the top concern right now, but i'm hoping that more points into the illusion/sneak trees will be able to alleviate some of the problems i've been having.

I dual wield swords, with the perks that make me hit faster with swords, and crit with swords. In addition to this, I bump up my damage with the initial one handed perk and the one after bladesman that gives me a extra damage for simply dual wielding.

No blocking, but in light armor I move around quickly so I try to stay out of any 2-h swings. It's basically a wood chipper build. Run in and slice and dice the enemies.

The downside is, when confronting a dragon or 2-h opponent I have to be very careful not to get hit too often or I go down easily. Think of it as a melee glass-cannon.

Viable? Against caster I'm deadly. They don't last long thanks to the insane dps. Against heavy opponents I need to quaff potions, and use my shout to knock them down.
