DPSCast time DOES scale with destruction

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 12:49 pm

Sorry if this is old news.

I have been testing fortifying my destruction ability (% mana cost reduction) and comparing it to how long a spell must be charged before casting, and it seems that the less magika a spell costs the less time it takes to charge the spell. This means that while damage does not scale, DPS does (since magika resistance does not scale with levels).

As far as i can tell the system works something like this - charging a spell puts a set amount of magika / second into that spell - once the casting amount has been reached the spell can be "fired". Reducing the amount of magika a spell takes means less magika needs to be channeled into the spell and it can fire faster.

Im not sure about:
- if magika regen affects the rate magika "charges" a spell
- how this affects scrolls
- how this affects continuous cast spells

Without any numbercrafting, this thread is pointless.

I think this is just speculation based on a placebo.

So with enough -% spell cost enchants you could just constantly spam Impact incinerate or something and reach a higher DPS?

I'm level 29 Mage right now and just got Incinerate with Destro of about 78. I am working on enchantments to reduce destruction cost so it will be good to know that its increasing my DPS and not just how many spells I can cast before running outta magic. If this is valid..

Its not like this is a difficult thing for you to try/verify on your own - Im not saying it only works if you do it on Mia'q's birthday. Just quicksave, buy the destruction robes from the mage at the college, and try it.
