Well, i played the game but really didn't notice any problem even i had installed it on my HDD.
Also when i use the spark spell i did not saw the "bad" texture. Maybe i still love the game and just don't notice it but if nobody said there was a problem than i would not notice it.

Is the first patch the file of 4 MB which was downloadable?

They were focusing on the game itself, not its textures.

because they all played from the disk i guess.

Since there are no texture issues if you play form the disk..
