Steam... SIGH

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 9:35 am

Steam forums are down sooo..

Pre-loaded game, unlocked today.

I go to launch

"Preparing to launch Skyrim..."

Infinite.. just sits there. I close, click again.

"Preparing to launch Skyrim..."

Steam won't close, so i cntrl+alt+dlt it.

Try and open steam again? It says "updating steam" and the bar doesn't move.

How I hate this piece of crap software, ever since day one it's been crap.

What the hell do I do to fix this?

Try to delete Steam, and re-install? It has done miracles to me in the past... I agree with you, steam is nothing but trouble.

Are you on wireless?

If you are, I have had this issue. Make sure you don't have other things going on, close your web browser etc..and restart steam then do what you have to do. It should be fine.

I guess it's because there's a lot of other people doing the same aswell so the steam servers are filled with this..

Just wait.

Hmmm, this sounds awfully annoying. Hve you tried restarting your Computer? Make sure all drivers are up to date. Also, do what is described in the first post in this thread: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1255536-game-crash-on-start-up/

If none of theese works, then im out of ideas. I feel sorry for you man.

Good luck!

I verified integrity before I started it to avoid problems.

I'm using 11.10 drivers, 6870

Windows 7 is fully updated

Sound drivers fully updated

Steam is still lagging and crashing.

Just did a virus scan last night with malwarebytes and Microsoft Security essentials. Yes, steam and its folders are on ignore lists.

No other game opens in steam for me right now -_- It just lags, freezes. Rinse repeat...

When the game is unlocked, there is a patch being applied, perhaps that is the delay.

Also, I have noticed with the past few games I have installed, it wants to update DirectX which is not necessary really, but seems to take a few minutes too where everything seems to get held up.

Yep, still not working. Steam just stops responding upon restart (and checking for an update that doesn't exist) and games won't launch. Internet is fine, tried resetting the router anyway.

Hell I unplugged the router and tethered my blackberry it still didn't work.

What.. the [censored].

I had to install it in my basemant computer, albeit a better computer but less comfy cuz its so stuffy down there. Gtx 570 x2, Ive been playing but my other computer, the computer I WANT to play it on. JUST WONT WORK.. ARRGG

Did it decrypt the files already and won't launch after that? Or has it not done the decryption yet? Also did any Windows UAC things pop up and you may have not seen them? Steam games go through a mandatory DX install before they can launch. It can take anywhere from 5-10 minutes in most cases.

I turned off that UAC crap, asking me everytime i bloody did something drove me insane.

I deleted the clientregistry.blob. I've had updating problems before and I remembered that, still didn't do anything. Games will not launch.

It already installed the DirectX stuff cortana.

Guess i'll settle for playing on the other rig in the stuffy creepy basemant -_-

Having trouble as well. Why do companies make their own games a million times worse by employing software that simply doesnt work.

You could try punching the screen. That usually works.

No but seriously put the working computer's Steam in offline mode, go upstairs, log into Steam on your first computer. Start Skyrim, go back downstairs and play on the other computer in offline mode, and just check on the other PC every once in awhile to see if it went through. Thats my best suggestion for you to troubleshoot and play Skyrim at the same time :P
