This game had to have been QA'd by 11 year old sweat shop workers in India and China.
Hows it working out for you? I've purchased every game that both ID and Bethesda have created. That includes Mavis Beacon teaches typng on the AMIGA. First IT WAS Brink (which I returned) now Rage...
WHAT HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU GUYS?!
How is it that the BEST publisher (and lets not forget developer) in the world IMO lets something like this happen? Again?
Lets end the rant there.
I am an ATI user. My gaming RIG has a cheapo last years HD4650 in it with 2gb of vram. I'm not too upset with the card as it runs EVERYTHING I throw at it flawlessly. I'm not a competitive FPS'r so if my frame-rate in Crysis2 drops to 37 occasionally while running everything pretty much on high, I don't complain - you get what you pay for.
This though? This is just lack of competent testing or IDGAF testing. Period. Why should people that buy your game have to spend HOURS on the internet after their purchase to get the thing to work? (wait - I think I was ranting there as well)
Here are my steps so far - I've got the game running perfectly smooth with the exception of the horrible texture streaming and qbert'ing textures.
Using the Cat 11.10 Battlefield drivers, I load up the game, find the opening cinematic awesome, and then BLAMO, the worst graphical/audio hitching EVER. Gotta be drivers right? My quest begins...
First I clean install the newest catalyst rage perf drivers. The game launches but crashes right after the splash stuff is taken care of.
This of course didn't do ANYTHING on its own; so I went into the catalyst control center and turned off triple buffering. Awesome now the game doesn't crash right after the splash intros before the main menu. Figure I'm in the clear right? So WRONG.
SEVERE hitching, audio lag, graphical lag in game, to the point where all of it is hitching constantly taking seconds to let loose. Then only for a second or two.
So I pound around the internet for HOURS both here and on the steam forums looking for a solution. I make LOTS of changes. Lots of driver uninstalls/purges and re-installs. Tons of Rageconfig editing. Finally I go back to the rage perf driver because it runs SWTOR flawlessly (Another game whose in house QA team resides in indonesia, manned by nine year old ex-leather tanning street kids). I then proceed to throw my hands up in the air, jump up, and kick the dog around the house for hours while punching babies in the head... I'm "Raging" at this point. I figure maybe this IS the game; after all, Brink had me on the "Brink" of putting a pistol in my mouth and spraying pink mist around the room.
I take a break for a couple hours, and come back. I delete my rageconfig. I open CCC, disable Catalyst AI and triple buffering. Launch... Holy crap the meshes and textures are completely weird/tearing/screwed up, but no hitching graphically or audio-aclly? (wtf) - none, nada, zero, ziltch.
Figuring I'm on the brink (theres that word I hate again) of fixing every ATI/AMD card users problems on the planet, I roll up my sleeves and dig in.
CCC. Catalyst AI is off. Turn Triple buffering on. Wait for vertical refresh - on always. Launch! Umm ok, I'm playing with doom era graphics with very minor qberting texture problems, but its smooth.
I figure its now time for the rageconfig.cfg to go back in. At first I go pretty light and see some improvements, but the texture streaming/qberting problems are still very present. So after trying about forty of them and playing with the settings in each - I'm about ready to stand up and kick the dog again. I cannot get rid of the texture problems without playing what looks like megaman on the NES. If I do use a config that gives me decent textures, I get severe streaming and qbert problems. Can't have your cake and eat it too it seems.
So I settle on this, which has the texture streaming problems minorly present, and a fair amount of Qberting:

I hope it helps someone, as the game is playable, but so immersion breaking and graphically screwed up, that I won't adventure out of the little starting ark/bubble thingamajigger.
So after hours of fracking with this game, I now have a solution that I think will work for me. Its a two parter...
First I need to fly both Todd Hollenshead (the CEO of id) and Robert Altman (CEO of Zenimax) to my home to have a sit down and explain my issues with Rage. They can then pay my dog's vet bill. [deleted]
Thats my plan... I'm sticking to it...
PS - don't tell Todd or Rob the plan...
