Problems with E key to activateloot

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 10:27 am

Please somebody help me! I am using the Steam download and I cannot find any manual with that version so I'm relying on you kind folks to help me out.

I am at the start of the game, my hands have been untied (so that is not the problem) - but I cannot pick anything up.
Pressing the E key as it says onscreen just grabs rather than opening the inventory of a body/container, I have been flinging fully clothed bodies around the one room I have seen so far for the best part of an hour, and I'm not going any further without a weapon!!!!
I haven't remapped any of the controls (at least not deliberately) and I don't have a manual to refer to because someone in their wisdom decided that the download version didn't get so much as an rtf file to refer to (at least not that I can find).

Using an older MS keyboard with all correct drivers etc.

Please someone help me out here, because I'm not going to bed until I get a weapon in my hands!

Normally you press E once to loot items and you keep E pressed to pick stuff up and fling it around.

Have you tried pressing E really fast? Maybe it's just your old keyboard that's the problem.

Ah thanks Tensdale - yeah the E key on that board has been a bit spongy for a while (too much jumping in Oblivion ;) ), but I like the keyboard so was hanging onto it as it works OK for everything else. I've just swapped it out for another keyboard and am about to give that a go.

If I'd had the manual to hand and seen that holding E was grab, I'd probably have realised the problem sooner so thank you for posting that! I'll report back in a minute.

Does anyone know if there's an online manual knocking about anywhere? Ta.

Edit: Yes changing the keyboard did the trick!!!! I hate this one though, so I'm going to root around a bit to see if I can find a better one. Thanks for letting me know that the E key is also the grab button, because I wouldn't have known that otherwise without the manual - it's not in the control settings menu in game!
