How in hell do you actually install it?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 2:35 am

I have the DVD...

1] Inserted disk. Steam failed to start
2] retried, logged into my existig steam account...couldnt install as wasnt midnight
3] waited till midnight
4] re-inserted disk. Steam starts says servers are busy and shuts down. Skyrim doesnt install
5] retried the disk launcher. Steam starts to try to launch the game - in 1hr 48 mins. I close that.
6] Try the reinstall. Steam sits there validating files for 20 minutes. Wait patiently, cancel.
7] Try reinstall again.Steam validates files, nothing happens. Skyrim doesnt install.
8] Try reinistall for a third time...steam still fails to install the game from the the disk, starts validating files again and updating game that hasnt installed...2hr wait.

Bethesda...Steam is totally ruining this game. PLEASE JUST ALLOW US TO FREAKING INSTALL THE DAMN GAME FROM CD THEN START THE DAMN STEAM NONSENSE.

What the HELL is wrong with just playing the damned game for the love of Pete...

Is the game unlocked on Steam in your timezone? Steam will not allow the game to install from the DVD until the game is unlocked.

Yes, its 12.35 AM here in the UK...as I stated in my post I waited till midnight.

I'm uninstalling everything and starting again. Honestly...Steam just is not worth the hassle...no wonder people are switching to consoles.

well this is fun....am I really supposed to right click on installed games...click install, wait, get "server busy" until it finally does? And manually? It won't just sit and download it while I am asleep ? It's on the frigging CD's! I don't get passed anything and my download folder is empty. Oh well...can play with the dragon all night...or just go to sleep. And then try again tomorrow and compete with the US steam downloaders as well. Bleh.

Something tells me Steam is having problem handling the load of people wanting to install the game. Remember their forums is closed and I don't think it has nothing to do with hackers. I can just imagine in 4.5 hrs when all of US and Canada try to install it at the same time.

Ok if people are slightly newish to steam (like me)...here's a hint.

shut down steam after you've entered your key. Then autoplay your Skyrim CD (or double click setup). Instead of Install Skyrim you now have the option to Play Skyrim. It will now automatically update and you will no longer get that irritating Steam message that the servers are busy. This works a lot better than what I did before tyring to install it via Steam client.

Totaly agree, i hope Bethesda takes notice of how many people hate this garbage called steam attached to a box copy, its nothing more then a big FU to customers.

I am also annoyed with steam waiting 40mins to download via steam even tho I have the DVD copy sitting on my desk & in my drive what a waste of time & effort.

Why do they even make us use Steam for a box copy? They never had to do that with Oblivion or Morrowind. I guess developers will never learn; adding DRM hurts your actual customers, and makes potential buyers pirate the game.
