This fixed everything for me atleast. Dont forget to read all the way to the bottom. they have 2 or 3 extra items down there I added and they worked wonders!! I was having extream texture pop, this fixed it.

It may fix every glitch but it doesn't fix the SLI workload, do you know, someone with a SLI would like to use two cards instead of one :)
please show your config file tham, what do you adedd?

In any case I bump my question:
is there a way, a console command to see if we are using 4K texture or 8K texture?

I said it fixed my problems, sorry about the SLI problems. Here is my Config that fixed my texture pops.

As Transcoding doesn't work on AMD cards, because they lack CUDA Cores, the only tweak in that section that will help is vt_maxPPF, unfortunately. As such, your Transcoding is being done entirely by your CPU, hence why AMD users are experiencing so many issues.

HELP

After creating rageconfig.cfg file RAGE starts but force closes after i press continue,any ideas? When i remove rageconfig.cfg it loads...

If you have not implemented the rageconfig.cfg tweak then you are using the Auto level. Only the .cfg can force 4k or 8k. To date, I have never seen the Auto setting match 8k.

As for SLI/CrossFire, that is something NVIDIA, AMD and id are going to have to work on together.

its getting interesting ive removed rageconfig.cfg, start RAGE everything is ok, so i exit and in rage shortcut target line i add skip intro line, so i start RAGE, no intro i try to continue game and same problem doesnt load.

OK after this crash rage it self copied to clipboard this line:

idVertexBuffer::MapBuffer: failed

I tried this several times, but the textures keep looking exactly the same. Any ideas on how to make it work?

If you're in the mayor's office, for example, you won't see any difference. Where it works is mainly outdoors and large indoor areas.

Yeah I know, but even outdoors it still looks the same. I did side by side screenshot comparisons and nothing. :(

8192. I would suggest disabling AA in the options menu and not using AF in the config file, seeing how it works at 8K, then gradually adding AA back in. I've seen reports from people saying it works fine with 1GB and other saying that it doesn't, so it's totally hit and miss at 1GB.

Andy there is also Commands:

image_anisotropy 16 "set the maximum texture anisotropy if available"
image_usecompression 0 " forces everything to high quality"

edit: er sorry just image_usecompression 0 " forces everything to high quality" which im not sure if it does anything or not. world model textures are still really poor...

The card is running on the RAGE performance AMD catalyst driver and I must say these changes are awesome, texture pop-in is almost gone and the textures at least look acceptable now.
So far I encountered only a minor case of artifacts (blue colored textures where there should not be blue :) ).
Now and then there is an occasional freeze for a split second but nothing worth mentioning.

All in all these changes make the game playable for me with just minor glitches that need ironing out.

Thank you Andy for this solution that will at least fix a lot of texture problems for some of us.

exactly the same problem here. I got HD4870 2GB
any ideas?

id Tech 5 (the Rage engine) can only utilize 4x AF, so anything extra is a waste and/or might slow your game down (check the story for more details). Will check out the second config though, not used that before.

The only setting I have forced on is vsync, Catalyst A.I is enabled (Quality setting). AA and AF are controlled by the application (game).

EDIT:

Full catalyst 3D settings I use atm:

SMOOTHVISION HD: Anti-Aliasing: Use application settings
SMOOTHVISION HD: Anisotrophic filtering: Use application settings\
Tessellation: AMD Optimized
Catalyst A.I.: Quality + Enable Surface Format Optimization
Mipmap Detail Level: Quality
Wait for Vertical refresh: Always on
Anti-Aliasing mode: Adaptive Multi-Sample AA
OpenGL: Triple buffering disabled.
