Step 1. Install latest beta driver
Step 2. In nvidia driver - Force enable triple buffering and vsync - set anisotrpic filtering to application controlled or u will get patched textures (grid-lines).
Step 3. As far as stuttering - right click on rage and uncheck the box for "enable steam community in game". this fixed all stuttering.

Step 4. Also, to help with pop-in, Under C:\Users\(user)\App data(hidden folder)\Local - add folder id software and inside that add folder rage. so final target shud be C:\Users\(username)\App data\Local\id software\rage.
Step 5. Right click rage and go to "launch options" and type +fc_maxcachememoryMB 1024 - this will cause 1gb of textures to be cached.
Step 6. In game - enable GPU Transcoding

Tried this...It didn't fix my stuttering...

Thanks! My screen tearing went away thanks to think, was just wondering if there was a way of increasing the amount of texture information was stored in cache and if that would help at all.

I tried this, too. If anything, the stuttering is worse now. Thanks, though, I'll keep trying stuff.

There is less lag, and the texture pop ins are much more tolerable. Thank you very much Hopefully an official Nvidia driver will be released soon, but this will
definitely suffice until then.

I have done all on the above.....

There is less lag, PoP is a bit better, but still problematic for what the game is worth. Not to be offensive, i didn't spend over 6K for a nice gaming workstation to have these kind of issues. I'll post my DXDiag in hopes that QA will look at this and see any relevance.

Just to add to my previous post,

The DXDiag was done while RAGE was running in the background playing on a single 27" Monitor: no Multi-Screen enabled, Tri-SLI with Auto-Select GPU/CPU for Physix.

I tried this fix, but I have Windows XP and the beta is not compatible. My graphics card is 9800 GTX+. I updated to the latest driver that was compatible and tried the suggestions on this thread. It fixed the initial graphics problem (I could only see random colored polygons), but now it seems the vast majority of the graphics are not rendering. At the initial start-up, I can see the red panel you can click to hear the message from the president and the door, but everything else is black with some random sparks coming from invisible objects. I opened the door and could see a few terrain items and the buggy that picks you up, but most of the world is black/invisible...

freezing on every loading screen. After about 6 tries trying to get past Mutant Bashed TV's loading screen I've decided to give up. Lesson learned--Never buy from id software until I see stellar reviews on game performance.

Wanted to get a sense what everyone's RAGE.exe memory allocation is when you bring up Task Manager. Mine is never above 550,000K or so. Anyone have it much higher?

I would add that it's best to do a clean install instead of an upgrade. I did an upgrade so I could play Battlefield 3 beta and things screwed up. This is what nVidia support says to do. Use Driver Sweeper 3.2.0 from Phyxion. You can find http://phyxion.net/item/driver-sweeper.html here. It works for AMD, Microsoft, Asus. Realtek, nVidia, ATI, Intel and Creative. It will even clean your registry for you, so there are know traces of any old drivers.

(because steam checks rage.exe at start, if changed...i dont know...wouldnt work...could cause reinstall)

This unit is a Water-Cooled system, the blocks for the cards/CS/MB set me back plus the pumps and rez and rad; Plus i bought these cards new just before the 580 GTX came out. Refuse to upgrade to a newer Nvidia card till its thoroughly tested.

you, my friend, are a genius! my game is actually playable now! no more freezes, stuttering or not loading of the level at all. Texture pop in is still bad but I can live with it until an official patch comes out. Any way to unlike the higher res textures?

there are some other cvars u can try that can fix the pop in. i can help u but its a trial and error process cuz some can actually make it worse. so we can enter a few, load the game, tweak, rinse, repeat.
