Shadow Problems?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 3:19 pm

Whether this is the texture thing the forum is talking about or not, I just want to point out that when I exited the Cave thing for Skyrim (then I could do whatever I want), I looked at the beauty and it was amazing, however as I was walking and whatnot, I looked at the shadows for the trees, and my character and I saw pixeled boxes for the shadows (such as you see in real old games), but this problem comes and goes as I'm walking through Skyrim. Not sure if it's my television that isn't HD whatsoever (the old tubed TVs), and it's 27", not sure if it's that or not, which I doubt. But I thought you guys should look into it.

Sorry if what I'm talking about is the Texture thing that is being talked on the forum, but I didn't see anything about Shadows that are noticeable Pixalated boxes, and not clear and curved out shadows that it should be.

Would clearing my cache or whatever fix this? is that the problem? or is that something else?

I know it's not my Xbox because I have a few games that came out recently and they have good shadow animations, and they are stunning, which this game is, but who knows if it's a in-game problem or something.

Yeah I have it and it's driving me crazy. I'm trying to install the game now to see if it helps...If it doesn't get better I'm getting rid of Skyrim, I can't look at it, it's embarassing. I've talked Skyrim up all week and now people are watching me play and laughing at how outrageously bad it looks....Not helping the cause because now I'm sure these people wont buy it.

Yes they are very blocky and jagged but I have a feeling thats just how they have been done. Also sometimes when outside every 6 or so seconds the shaddows will flicker for a second or two, this repeats every 6 or so seconds.

According to Bethesda's official sticky (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1258645-texture-scaling-on-360/):

Skyrim uses a lot of dynamic streaming systems, including textures. We’ve seen a few reports of certain textures temporarily scaling down on the Xbox 360, and not scaling back up. We have verified that this issue does not occur when playing off the disk and when the game is fully cached (not installed). Skyrim makes heavy use of the Xbox 360 caching system, and caches over the normal course of play while in menus or interiors. This cache can be wiped when other games are played or when the user manually removes it. We’re working on a solution in the next title update for those who have installed the game.

So I guess you should try cleaning up the cache, running the game from the disc and playing for a while. From what I can understand from Bethesda's message, you need to allow the game to be "full cached", then textures and shadows will start looking nice. That is, of course, speculative.

The other possibility is that shadows look low-res no matter what you do... :cryvaultboy:

Don't get rid of the game just yet people, I'm sure Bethesda is working on it as we speak.
