Mobile Graphics Drivers

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 6:56 am

Hey all,

In preparation for Skyrim this evening I checked to see if the drivers on my graphics card are up to date. Much to my dismay, HP hasn't released a new driver for my laptop's Radeon mobility 5650 since last year (version 8.771.1.0). I'm pretty sure that I can't get newer versions of the drivers from AMD, only the manufacturer of my laptop. Will I be okay? Is there another method of updating my graphics drivers?

You can generally get drivers directly from the graphics card manufacturer. Laptop manufacturers (or, more properly, the ODMs) rarely update their drivers. nVidia and AMD have gotten better at ensuring later driver releases are more stable on mobile platforms, but it's still not as solid as the desktop side (laptop chipsets tend to be customized a bit).
