The worst shift I had to do was a 5am-3:30pm shift, with only a 30min lunch + two 15min breaks. I'd also like to mention that I had to get up at 3am and leave by 4am, as it took an hour to get to work. Had to be in bed by 7pm, so all I had was 2:30 hours of free time.

Good thing it lasted only a month, and got paid pretty well for the 2hours extra OT everyday.

I had shifts constantly shifting at my old job, so I had to learn how to adapt very quickly. That one just happened to be my worst flavor of the month. Sometimes I'd do 1:30 - 9:00, 3:00-11:30, 7am - 3:30. It was a little nutty.

design a program that forces you to do a rigorous mental activity at random intervals throughout the night. That will keep you awake.

Atleast you don't have to stay longer due to having to order a whole department.

I've done night shift for like 8 out of 12 years with the company.

i often have to do a opening shift right after a closing shift, they schedule us for short days in the middle of our week so that we do not get over time.

Sure you can just look up some porm interesting sites.

I've done morning shifts from 5:30AM to 1:30PM (Probably the best shift/job I've ever had) and I never got much more than 6 hours sleep. My recent job right now I get little over 6 hours sleep and I'm up from 6AM and don't get home till 6PM

Caffeine, of course. Buy energy drinks and drink coffee. Do push-ups once a while.

Also, if you're working outdoors, lighten your clothing because a cold person is never a tired person.
