When to expect high-resolution texture pack?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 1:50 am

People say that it was announced that id will release high-resolution texture pack after the game. But I can`t really find any exact information about it. I`ve watched full Carmack`s keynote @ QuakeCon2011 and he was saying something like "maybe" or "possible".

Is there any proof that we can count on it and if yes, then when it will be released?

Yes that's all. He said they might release such a patch but he mentioned only for a single level. And it's all a big "maybe".
But somehow this got interpreted as if id had just announced a high-resolution texture pack for the whole game that will definitely be released shortly after release and will be hundreds of GB big and so on and so the rumour spread....

But unfortunately no proof and until they really announce such a pack I wouldn't count on it :(

When he says something "possible" or "we would liked to" and mention that 3 TIMES in his keynote .... then ... B) :celebration:

He was dropping random hints in interviews as well - i love his teasers. Once they (id) said they we're unsure how they will distrubute the package (due it's probably massive size) and he even got HTTP or FTP streaming for PC but he was unsure how will they set up datacenters and servers for this(due costs and size of the operation probably)

I hope id release a high-resolution package or an VERY GOOD patch because the image quality
of near objects are more then miserable (Playstation 2 has better graphics!) I don`t understand that!!!

He actually mentioned more things that he would like to do, but more likely it will never happen
