Can one become King of Skyrim?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 11:20 am

Question in the title... anyone know if we can become King of Skyrim? If not... can we at least become a Jarl of a region or something?

I highly doubt they would accept an Argonian king. Jarl is pushing it, but you never know who might be progressive.

They never allowed anything like that in the prior games, so I kinda doubt it. Should be interesting, but as an end-game thing kinda boring.

Not entirely true, players were able to become either a duke or duchess and ultimately the Madgod :hubbahubba: in Shivering Isles.

True, so maybe a Skyrim DLC will do that for us. But also after doing that in SI there was really nothing left to do in the game as you were just too overpowered.

Ya, I thought that King of Skyrim might be a stretch, but I really hope that one can become a Jarl. I believe they said that they have a new guild system once you have become the leader of the guild, so that there is more to do then just collect money every month or w/e like in Oblivion. I was hoping that at the end of the main quest line there might be something similar, like becoming a Jarl and overseeing a region or something. If its not in the vanilla game then hopefully something similar will be modded in eventually.

A Jarl is more likely... and is also something I'd like to be.

There were lots of royalty options in Daggerfall
You could become King of something in the Tribunal DLC(Is this true? I haven't played in a while)
Duke or Duchess of Bliss or Crucible
Before they done the final curt in Oblivion You could become a Count of a city but they cut it because it collided with the MQ.

If they originally intended on allowing one to become a count in Oblivion but then had to cut it, we probably have a pretty good chance of becoming a Jarl in Skyrim then I should think. I just hope if that is the case, we will be able to choose which region we rule.

I wish to be Jarl of Solitude, with my wife, Lydia by my side. Being King would be more awesome though. As Dovahkiin, it is my right.

Thane is the highest title you can receive in the game. Not sure if that comes w/ any added perks- maybe a decent residence- servants would be nice.

P.S. I hated being 'king' in Fable2/3 and I'd hate that in Skyrim. In my eyes- Dovahkiin means you're fated for a different path in life.

I guess if you kill everyone then you'd be king.

Well, the last dragonborn ended up being an emperor... ;)

...but it's also true that the last one who tapped into the heart of Lorkhan did NOT become a man-god :(

No, you can't become king because you don't have noble blood. I don't know why you'd want to be king anyways. Kings sit in a room and listen to grievances and declare laws and such all day. They don't get to wander around in caves looking for treasure.

That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard!

Do you think Tiber Septim started his rise to power with a silver spoon up his #$$? All dynasties start somewhere. Better the poor hungry warlord than the already established noble be king because the former earned their kingdom through their own toil while latter did little to earn it. Read up on Titus Mede if you're unsure.

Okay let's talk about "noble blood". The forthcoming hero of Skyrim possesses blood worth far more than a hundred nobles put together. Why? Because the hero is a Dragonborn--descended from that same sacred and powerful blood line / legacy that Tiber Septim and his descendants were apart of.

Now with that aside. I think it would be great if the Dragonborn had the *option* of becoming king with all the wars, upheavals, and intrigue it will bring...if they choose. I think it would be a great idea if Bethesda weren't so concerned about their precious continuity.

I don't want to compare Skyrim to Fable 2 and 3. Fable 2 was a good game but the kingly aspects were ill defined. Fable 3 had the monarch system in place but it was not as good as Fable 2. I'm hoping that Skyrim will be a great game and allow you to be whatever you want; pauper, prince, or king. Either now or in some future DLC or expansion.
