Changing the FOV in Skyrim

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 9:50 am

- Go to My Documents > My Games > Skyrim

- Create a backup of the SkyrimPrefs.ini file by copying then pasting it to a folder of your choice.

- Open SkyrimPrefs.ini in a text editor like Notepad or Wordpad and at the top you have a section where it says [General].

- At the bottom of this section, add fdefaultfov=XX (where XX is the FOV value you want to change to).

(Example FOVs: 75, 90, 100, etc.)

- Save the file and close it.

Doesn't work.

Try it. Save the fdefaultfov=XX and then go ingame, open console and type in "fov XX". You'll see.

This is what works for me...

Edit My Documents > My Games > Skyrim > Skyrim.ini

Under [General] add fdefaultfov=90

Under [Display] add fDefaultWorldFOV=90

Change 90 to whatever suits you.

EDIT...
After making the above changes, you need to tab in and out of the ingame menu for the setting to take effect first time.

Is your file flagged as "read only" in properties, go back in and see if your change actually worked, if it's still set to the original check your file and untick read only

You need to add a line to general and display, you wont see your set FOV at first, I found bringing up the menu (TAB) will activate the new FOV.

first time I tried this it worked on the first start, if I typed "fov90" it went way above fov 90, now if I type "fov" it gives me the default fov (now 90, since I changed)

however, it doest stick and I gotta type in fov in the console
