Oct 4 AMD Drivers Make it Worse

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 10:30 am

I'm one of the unlucky people where Rage is completely unplayable on my computer. I'm using a slower CPU, but fairly good GPU

Windows 7 64bit
AMD Athlon X2 64 2.2Ghz
2GB RAM
Radeon HD 6750 1GB
WD Black Caviar HD

I've been doing some experimenting with the new AMD drivers. When I completely uninstall all AMD drivers and the run the game using Windows' default drivers the game actually runs. The framerate is low and there is some texture popping and glitches. When I install the new AMD drivers, then run the game, everything grinds to a halt. Textures are slowly loading while the game pauses for up to 30 seconds, a slight movement, then another pause for 30 seconds. It is so slow, that bringing up menus to quite takes minutes.

There definitely seems to be serious issues with AMD GPUs. Pretty sad as I was looking forward to playing.

Are you 'just' using the newest catalyst, or the RAGE specific driver?

Amd broke catalyst ai somewhere around 11 version, it breaks rage. Windows driver is older and doesnt have that bug. It will probably get fixed in driver thats coming in next 24 hours for last 24 hours.

I edited your topic title to clarify, as different drivers were released on Oct 3 and Oct 4 and we are expecting a new AMD driver possibly today.

The driver you are referring to is the Oct 4 RAGE performance driver, correct?

I was using the newest available Rage specific AMD drivers, downloaded fresh on Oct. 6.

I really hope new ones are coming - did they not test the game beforehand?

Since Oct 4, AMD has not released new drivers; however, you can keep an eye on AMD's twitter feed here: http://twitter.com/#!/CatalystCreator

Reportedly a new RAGE/BF3 Unified AMD Driver is forthcoming soon.

My information has been incorrect - post edited

I'd still recommend the beta driver however as both the ati rage performance driver and the 11.9 non rage version cause issues for me.

beta driver can be found here:

I'd highly recommend the beta driver released 8th oct, its running really good for me without any ridiculous file changes or configs

beta driver can be found here:

Yes sorry, im Australian, i read the date as: day/month/year , i momentarily got caught up while trying to play rage !! haha.

Like i edited up a post or two, driver versions 11.9 and the rage performance cause issues with me so i still prefer the august version. beta version 11.8

when installing either of the new drivers it corrupts my Logitech g15 keyboard and causes "display has stopped working and successfully recovered" messages now and then.

Edit: i just installed 11.9 and the rage driver, and it still messes up the keyboard and causes the stop messages. Now i gotta reinstall the 11.8 beta driver

The rage driver ATI released doesn't make it worse for everyone, myself included. Your post is misleading mate.
