[REQ] Elevate 1st Person Perspective

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 1:27 pm

I've noticed, and it annoys me, that the first person camera seems to be too low. My altmer character is taller than most characters he talks to, and in third person they look up to him when he's standing next to them. But in first person it appears that most NPCs are taller than he is.

hear, hear! Let it work with custom heights too (I use the console to make myself a wee bit bigger than the average orc)

It looks low but if you stand toe to toe with an NPC your looking them right in the face not the throat or the chest. If you raise it to look better at a distance then when you get right up in their face you'll be looking over their head.

I haven't tried it yet but I bet setting the FOV from the default to something closer to 90 (in the ini) would make the perspective feel higher.

Well if you are taller, you should look down on shorter people, and vice versa. Speaking of which, is the first person camera on the same height for all races? Because from what I can remember I mostly look people right in their faces, and I'm playing as Bosmer.

Meanwhile, the camera was way to high when sitting on a bar stool. (But that might be another topic)

God I want this fixed as well. It really annoys me that I'm a "short Altmer" in first person...

So does changing FOV make you seem taller? I've read Skyrim fov is only 65!? Oblivion was 75, so that could be the issue.

Skyrim's FOV is 75. Changing the FOV doesn't make you seem taller, I've been switching the FOV between 75 to 90 the whole time I've been playing.

As far as I can tell switching between first and third our eyes are in our foreheads in first. There is nothing wrong with the first person camera.

All I know is that this isn't true in my game for my male altmer character (the only one I've created so I don't have any basis for comparison). If I stand face to face with Lydia, for example, my character's eyes are level with the top of her forhead and she cranes her neck a little to look up to me in third person. But in first person she's not looking up at me. In fact, she appears as tall or perhaps a little taller than my character.

If I'm not mistaken, female characters tend to be a little shorter (I don't feel like loading my game just to confirm) than males, maybe the camera for all characters is set at a height appropriate for female characters so only those playing male characters might notice it?

Amen, this has been driving me insane as well. I'm an Orc and the only way I can talk to npc's at "eye level" while in 1st person is if they're sitting--not ok.

They do probably have a set height for the first person camera but different races have different heights. I'm playing an imperial which is probably right in the middle and therefor the camera is perfect. If that's the case then we're going to need a scripted mod that detects the player race and sets the camera accordingly.

I hate this as well. For me it seems in all situations Im about 3 feet tall and I'm a Nord. I'm not talking about when I'm talking to anyone, but just in general. Many times Ive thought I was crouching but Im not.
