Flickering textures

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 10:23 am

Hey there!

Well, I've played a few hours and Skyrim is exactly the time devouring monster I thought it would be. Pretty impressed by now. There is one thing that bothers me, though. Especially when I'm indoors or inside city walls, there is a constant flickering of texture layers, like moss on a stone wall popping in and out, or lets say a layer of hay in a prison cell. Depending on the angle I look at them and the distance between me and the textures, the flickering gets really annoying. Sometimes parts of characters, doors or parts of my characters hair become transparent for a while. The transparent doors helped me with sneaking around a little, but of course thats not the way I want to play the game.

Anyone else having that problem? Any way to fix it? I already changed the texture resolution, but the problem is just the same on every detail level.

EDIT: I'm using a Radeon HD5850 with the newest drivers.

I also have the exact same problem with a radeon 5850 with an intel i5 750 @4ghz. This is a very annoying problem as i can see though walls and it really looks bad!

Hmmm, I have an AMD CPU, so I guess thats really a Radeon problem. Hopefully not just the 5850 as it doesnt seem to be as common as other cards. -.- I tend to run around only in the main world space for the time being, since there is almost no flickering at all.

I hear that nvidia is having flickering texture issue also. Seems to be specifically with the water. However, it also seems to correct itself after a little while.

I've heard reports that this is with having CF enabled. You'll likely have to wait with it disabled until AMD gets off their butt and makes a profile update.

I had the exact same problems as OP. Exact same card (HD 5850)
A little bit into the first mission of the game I turned the graphics settings to ultra (with a few the other advanced options turned up as well) and the game fixed itself and still runs perfectly smoothly.

I can confirm the problem with Nvidia. I'm having the same flickering issues with a GTX 295.

For those having this issue with AMD/ATI:

I fixed this by going into Catalyst Control Center/Gaming/3D Application Settings and hitting DEFAULT.

This stopped all the flickering, besides that on very distant mountains. Please spread the word so people know how easy it is to fix this.
