I grew up playing the original Sid Meier's Civilization
Me too. I played the DOS version a lot when I was younger and I didn't have a gaming computer back then, but later I bought Civ II which I consider to be the best game in the series and Civ III to be the worst imo.

Civ 4 could be equal to Civ II, but I there is something I missed from the beginning in Civ 4 and that's the trade technology which grant you trade routes between cities with the caravan unit.

Believe it or not but I've never play Alpha Centauri. The game never got me attracted enough to actually play it.

I'm nearing the end of another Civ 4 game right now actually. I have Warlords and BTS. I'm about to load it up. It's a great modern war with me vs the world, nukes exploding everywhere.

Civ 4 has it's problems. It's great but feels "bloated". There's too many wonders. Mountains for some reason are unworkable (but I have a mod now that makes them like Civ 3). The worst though is the way siege units are used. I find it ridiculous that you have to sacrifice them in order to do collateral damage, and that aircraft cannot destroy units, especially naval units. I much preferred the Civ 3 way of handling siege units. If they had limited stack size and kept siege units like in Civ 3 the game would be so much better.

The best thing about Civ 4 is it's soundtrack, except for modern era which I've since modded.

I've heard enough bad things about Civ 5 that I think I'll be skipping it. The hex map is great, but I heard it's incredibly tedious to skip turn after turn, and I foresee big problems when trying to invade with a one-unit-per-hex limit.

I also heard bad things about Civ V, but I actually bought a few days ago and I must say that's not so bad people say it was. Now I can't stop playing it, because it's a lot better than Civ III that's for sure and have the same excitement as Civ IV. :)

Agreed though my personal favorite civilization game (not counting SMAC) would be Civilization 4 with beyond the Sword after first playing Civilization Revolution and then Civilization 3. The only thing I wish Civilization 4 retained however from the third would be a city view but still remains my favorite in the series. SMAC however is well worth the hype surrounding it having enjoyed it myself and also impressed personally that a game created in 1999 included scientific concepts like 'TOE', string theory, tachyons, gravitons, and other things that gave the game a sense of depth. Also amusing when they included secret projects like the Human Genome Project and CERN before they were later completed. Overall a great game.

I have Civ 4 on discs, but ugh I just hate installing discs these days. Why Steam, why won't you let me register it!!
Wow thats uh.... Really lazy...

So I have CIV 4 with all the expansions. I got a gold edition a long time ago when it was released.

It's a good game I like it but not very pro at it. Anyone want to play sometime with me?

When the price drops I may get 5

Making this quick, just wait till you are almost done with Civ IV and then you go to mods. So many great mods out there, there is one, http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=190 and a few others based of it, that are so good it's almost a completely new game. Make sure you check them out.

FYI You can only use F7 in Civilization 5 as a default key for screenshot in Steam, because the other F-keys are already assigned by other Steam games such as Shogun 2 TW and probably by other Total War games too.

Shortcut keys
F1 - Civilopedia
F2 - Economic Info
F3 - Military Info
F4 - Diplomacy Info
F5 - Tech Screen
F6 - Social Policies Screen
F11 - Quick Save
F12 - Quick Load
However you can use Scroll Lock but not PrintScreen.

I'm not entirely sure if other Steam games except for Total War games are using F7 or not.

:P i once had a 32 hour marathon on civ2

have not played civ5 a whole lot but i really like how smooth all the features are, espeacially how it can be played with just the mouse because of all the usable icons. (I used to have broken keyboards)

No, it's more like build an empire/civilization from scratch. You choose a famous World Leader (Like Genghis Khan, George Washington, Napoleon, Caesar, etc.) and build cities, armies, trade networks, and can establish relations with other nations.

It's sort of like Total War, but I can't say if its like EE as i've never played it.

Fun game though.

I would say yes to that because I own both games (Empire Earth 1&2, Empire Total War) and played them both too (I haven't played Empire Earth for a long time now). Okay there is some difference between them, but overall yes you can say that. :)

I'm stuck between difficulties right now. I either roll and get bored because I know I've secured victory, or bump the difficulty up one and get rolled.

There is so many things that has been added or changed from the previous game in Civilization 5. I take it some of you have discover the ancient ruins that's everywhere on the game map, but also the barbarian camps that pops up now and then.

Here is my uploaded game save on GHF Download (Other) with something really odd that I notice the other day when I was playing Washington - American Empire, which hasn't happen before in previous games IIRC.

Planning on running a game of 3.5 with a fall form heaven motif one of these days.

CIV 5 needs content badly. Hopefully with a few expansions it will be as fun and valuable of a game as Civ 4.
