That one question does not have an answer as of yet.

With 1468 posts on these forums alone, and you joined 5 and a half years ago, I thought you wouldn't be the kind of person asking that question.

We don't know yet. We can only hope it's subscription though.

Post count and age have nothing to do with the type of question a person can ask. Also considering this is the forum for it this seems like a good place for him to be asking this question.

It's possible. as not every area of Tamriel will be included from the get go they will be expansions. and with more and more MMO's being free to play i think it may be free.

I think it will be free considering it's 'Elder Scrolls Online'. There is no point making you pay to buy the game then pay a subscription fee for something that is based online.

I'll be shocked if it isn't subscription based.

Hey there.

Ever played an MMO before? Because that's exactly how any subscription-based MMO works.

Haha, to be honest I'm more of a console player, but it still sounds pretty stupid to have to pay

That's how you support an MMO. Constant updates and constant server maintenance costs money. I'd pay upwards to $50 a month for this. It's the Elder Scrolls.

This.

MMOs require an around-the-clock support team.

If GW2 can make a game without a monthly subscription, then TES:O can too.
I'm sorry, but your logic is flawed.
And you wonder why people call you names.

I think it will be subscription base, just because it will be heavily PvP oriented. IMO it would be easier to balance the game without having to put up with silly tokens of respec, increased XP/Gold/Whatever and in the end we will have better content!

And Diablo III is not an MMO.

World of Warcraft is. And there's a monthly fee.

I support Cogstar here. Diablo III is not an MMO but it has many features that will (hopefully) hold the community together which makes a feel of "like an MMO"

Right, but "like an MMO" is different from an actual MMO.

Diablo III will not have single servers supporting populations of thousands of players at a time (usually all camping out in a few areas). Don't get me wrong, I pre-ordered, and the installer is eagerly awaiting 5/15, but the infrastructure required for Diablo is nothing compared to what's required for an MMO.

I understand your point, I just felt it was important to bring it out there the idea that MMO don't need to be classic anymore. Games like Tera, Firefall and Guild Wars 2 look different from what we got used to see and they play solid.

In order to talk about The Elder Scrolls: Online we also need to look at all the games out there that have interesting ideas or ideas that are bordering MMOs in order to try and predict what we're going to see in the future.

I would prefer it to be free after you buy the initial game, like Guild Wars 2. That is the best way IMO.
