So i will confirm that turning all these UNRELEATED settings does not do anything what is actually helping is you are resetting your game this reeks of memory leak.

Is a memory leak even possible? I don't think it is..

Well i am no computer engineer but my basic understanding of a memory leaks explains this problem very well, the game becomes increasingly laggy having less and less memory over time until it finally crashes ei running out of memory it certainly a more viable explanation than the 6.1mb save file since i have a 8mb one and the game runs fresh for a few hours and a simple reboot fixes the lag

Your PS3 hardware is also suspect as well, don't forget. It seems those with newer PS3 models and those who have purchased their Playstation's in the last couple months are experiencing less issues.

I haven't had time to test these settings for longer than about 30 minutes, but my immediate impression is HUGE improvement. After experiencing framerate drops after fast travels and while loading big cities, and really just a few during general gameplay, I loaded up my save in Whiterun and ran around town without a single noticeable dip. Gameplay felt as smooth as Oblivion's best moments. I ventured out into the wilderness with my horse (toward Markarth) and the only dips were the typical split-second stutters with loading a new area. Did a bit of fast-traveling, nothing. Totally smoothed.

I don't know how the hell these settings affect the game, but it's like magic. I have also disabled all autosave options. Will definitely be using this configuration until Bethesda does some patching - the game is in a perfect state for me right now.

HUGE thanks to Grunza and Yackpah for this info. I owe you my sincere thanks.

ive switched of the autosave and whats new and notifications options in the XBM, and loadtimes are now almost absent, when u enter a building or go back outside, the time the game has to laoad are MUTCH shorter. still get some bad framerate when walking through the wilderness with lots of trees. i also played this game at a friend on the 360, were the framerate in the wilderness is MUTCH smoother....
Hope they come with a patch very soon!

You misunderstand. I haven't yet experienced the same insane bouts of slideshow-framerates that other users have, just the typical low framerate while loading big cities, amongst many objects, and in visual-heavy areas of the environment. This is consistent whether I've been playing for 30 seconds or five hours at a time. I can understand that people are getting better framerates by quitting and restarting the game (resetting the cache, I would suspect), but I'm saying that as someone who hasn't had the ludicrous slideshow framerate that have plagued others, the aforementioned settings make general gameplay feel SO much smoother.

Tonight I'm going to try turning autosave back on and leaving the random ps3 settings to their changed state.

My PS3 is a 3 month old Slim and I have been having slideshow frame rates and stuttering constantly.

Slightly. But it's certainly no fix.

Does changing those random PS3 settings work?

Just wanted to give a quick update. I played for about six hours tonight, game started off buttery smooth. it ran very well until I decided to reimplement autosaves on travel for conveniency's sake. It was still fine afterwards (though loading times went up obviously), but I started to notice more framerate drops as I loaded into new areas or fast traveled. Toward the end of my six hour playing session, there were definite framerate drops that affected me when loading into big cities and areas. They usually resolved themselves after a little while, but as a whole the game was running at a slightly lower framerate than what it was when I first turned autosave back on, and DEFINITELY lower than when I was playing with NO autosave and the aforementioned settings.

Moral of the story? I'm not sure that changing those PS3 settings is solely responsible for better framerates - turning off autosaves seems to help as well, and will drastically reduce your loading times. My suggestion is to do both, unless you want SOME autosaving for convenience in which case I recommend "save on travel" be turned on in lieu of the others.

Tried the settings, and switched all autosaves to off (and deleted the autosaves), but the problem remains for me. The save file I'm playing from is now over 9 mb and the lags start earlier and earlier after rebooting... Will soon be completely unplayable. Damn, I hope a patch is released SOON!

I've tried all these settings, and played extensively with them off. While it improves stability shortly after you've restarted your PS3, after 4+ hours of gameplay, for me, the same problems begin to surface. I am also no computer engineer, but a memory leak does sound like a reasonable problem.

The reason none of us have EXACTLY the same problem is probably due to how we play the game(if a memory leak is the problem). People who take breaks often or play in a way that doesn't tax the system have minor issues (for example, stay in a certain area of Skyrim/don't fast travel often). While those who play for long hours and go crazy in Skyrim, probably have more pronounced issues.

Again, I'm just speculating.

I also noticed that playing the game offline, without the PS3 connected to the internet, seems to delay the problem a while longer than if you were connected.
