Any news on a skyrim mod manager?

The Nexus has been working on a Nexus Mod Manager that will service all of their supported games. I'd link to news about it, but the site appears to be down at the present. The mod manager is not finished, and probably won't be until the Creation Kit is out and mod management can become better understood.

Speaking of which, why is Skyrim separate from TES Nexus?

As Proditus said NMM will be the new OBMM/FOMM.

Also in development is the new http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1256835-wipz-wrye-smash/

Though not mod management I think the following will become necessary eventually too ....

For load ordering / bashed tags there will be a http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1256118-rel-boss-better-oblivion-sorting-software-for-skyrim/

Extending the scripting capabilities of modders, what used to be OBSE / FOSE is also in development for Skyrim ... http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1255931-wipz-skyrim-script-extender-skse/

They are all going to take time to actually develop though, cant expect private individuals to come up with what we have grown accustomed to for a new game only days after game release - Everyone needs to figure out what can be done, and how to approach it first. I think Nexus Mod Manager will be the most advanced quickest.

When starting the Skyrim launcher you can acces "Data Files" with an .esm file in it. Isnt that a sort of mod manager?

Yep it is, though there's a bit of doubt as to whether the Load Loose Files option actually works ... ESPs selected there (and so long as all associated files with that mod are installed) it 'should' work.

Personally I want to experience the game in its vanilla state before deciding if I need some part of it made 'better'. So plenty of time for development yet. And we still need a creation kit first too.

Correction: BOSS has already been released:

Though what with there not being many non-replacer mods out yet, there's not much in the masterlist either.

I stand corrected by the Wrinkly one himself, actually having just perused your thread I think as far as development goes you are probably the most advanced at the moment. All that ground work pre-Skyrim paid off. No doubt the masterlist will grow massively after the new construction set / kit becomes a reality.

Nexus Mod Manager is/will be a tool for handling mods from Nexus. There is still a need for something like OBMM/FOMM for Skyrim. You can use OBMM/FOMM along with NMM. You can also hand place mods into the game and still use NMM to launch the game. If you want more than one install of a game IS and Hana from TESA have a tool in the works called MIMI.

No, really, NMM is the replacement for OBMM/FOMM. I'm pretty sure of that. ;)

Not to say that no-one else would want to make their own mod manager, but the nexus mod manager is the 'official' OBMM/FOMM successor, and will do everything that they used to. (Edit: Including installing mods that weren't downloaded from skyrimnexus, obviously.)
