Player Housing Ideas

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 2:57 am

I doubt they will put player housing in at all.

Dev's seem really afraid of the idea, instanced or not, they just don't seem to like it. It's not like we need it to be like SW:G, I would just like SOME form of housing, but yet again another MMO designer is too scared to try it. I swear, if a decent MMO ever had the cajones to actually put in real player housing again I would sub for life.

Me, too, Ultenth...

It is my sincere hope that some MMO developer will get back to making MMOs be about worlds, and living in and exploring them.

You mean that grinding for gear in order to be able to beat monsters for better gear doesn't completely satisfy you? Perish the thought.

No, it doesn't. If I wanted that, I'd go play WoW.

I want Ultima Online Reborn!

I am not really in favor of putting houses in the game world for the reason that it just clutters up the landscape and just makes everything ugly. I personally wouldnt mind seeing housing like EQ2 which has it with houses of all sorts and price ranges in each city that any number of players can buy ( inside is instanced ) and maybe then add preset houses in the open world that act the same way.

I was tired of open world housing back with UO..

I'm not to familiar with the way most MMO's do player housing, but I don't see why they can't at least do it like LotRO did it.

Does anyone honestly know what could be a legit reason for housing not being in the game?

I don't mind instanced housing within cities. I just want a place in the game to call my own. Like what we've had in Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim.

I don't even care if the furniture is pre-placed like in Oblivion and Skyrim. Knowing that the house is MINE, and I've got plenty of containers to organize my stuff into will be enough.

I didn't like the urban sprawl that UO had either. It was cool having persistant structured that belonged to players, but they were literally everywhere. It kind or ruined the whole wilderness exploration thing.

Now what would be cool is if in the instancing for player housing, the layout of each block is randomly generated, each being able to hold the same number of houses of each size, but the layout would be different. If all of the houses of one type are bought in one neighborhood are bought, the adjacent neighborhood opens up and would have a different layout. This way, neighborhoods would be as unique as the players who live in them. A horse cart would take players from one neighborhood to any other neighborhoods associated with that city, unless you want to walk...

The lack of player housing is a dealbreaker for me. I want a sense of ownership in the Elder Scrolls world, I want to feel like I'm living and breathing in it. It seems each thing I read about in regards to ESO is pushing it farther and farther away from an RPG and closer to another MMO clone that has nothing to do with the atmosphere of the Elder Scrolls.

I posted a discussion topic about my thoughts but I put it in the wrong place unfortunately. I didn't know there was a subforum for ESO up already.
