Object Detail Fade - Good or Bad?

In advanced options there is a tick box for Object Detail Fade.

Does anyone know what this does? Does it offer improvements when checked?

It's bad if you have a good Pc, good if you have a bad pc.

To clarify, it removes distance objects details. So a slower machine would benefit due to having the ability to have a higher object view distance, but with lowered details so it's not as taxing. A high end machine doesn't need that checked, since it can handle it. It just lowers the quality, but let's u still see stuff far away.

What about the sliders for the fade? If they are higher does that mean, the view distance is higher before things fade?
