Skyrim Text Display Issues (SD TV)

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 1:37 am

this is exactly why i came to the forums. i have a SD TV also. i only began the game an hour ago, and i had to turn it off already because trying to read the text has given me a huge headache. i am probably going to return this game :( i played thousands of hours of morrowind and oblivion and i am so disappointed that i won't be able to play skyrim because of such a dumb thing.

I'd say at least wait to see if it gets fixed with the upcoming patch before taking the game anywhere. This thing is way too epic to let go so easily. Though I've progressed nowhere at all because of the issue. Lets just cross our fingers and hope they recognized this issue.

i damn well hope they fix this issue, when you're developing for a plattform that supports sd gaming then you damn well have to have SD tv users in mind when making it!

I have a huge 45" SDTV that my parents gave to me when they upgraded to an HDTV. I still can't read the text. Other games like Dark Souls, Fallout 3, Oblivion are FINE.

lol That's what everyone says. But the reality of it is that there's always going to be bugs. Something as big as this though? More than likely it will be fixed. You're jumping the gun and reacting too soon before anyone has even had the chance to really do anything about it and you're going to feel pretty crunchy if they actually did fix it. Hope you like your words well-done because you may have to eat them.lol

Bethesda sent out an email today saying they are NOT working on this problem, so give up now guys. I have the same problem and my heart goes out to you. Just sell the game back and get something else that actually caters to people that don't have $400 extra.

Ok. So I had a SDTV and know this issue. I went and got a HDTV because I needed a new TV anyways. Part of the reason why even on large screens it's had to read when other games are fine in SD is that even in HD most of the font is still too small. If they fix the SD issue they also need to add a feature to adjust font size... I do understand to a point their HD only stance, the electronics field works conjoined.... What's new what's selling? HDTV.... So what will they eventually force you to buy? HDTV

OK, Bethesda screwed up royally on some things with this game, but you can't pick solely on Bethesda for this one.

Back when I was using my SDTV (and this was about 3 years ago), a lot of the games I played had similar issues too. I distinctly remember not being able to see the mini-map at all in GTA IV, and struggling to read some texts when that game first came out.

Honestly, if you can afford to get a 60 dollar video game, you can afford to save up the 180 dollars it costs to get a small HDTV. My 22 inch cost that much a year ago. They aren't that expensive, and honestly, games look great on it.

when developing for a plattform that isn't exclusive to HD TV and supports SD TV users then as developers you damn well have to take the SD TV user fanbase into account, until a time comes where a new plattform doesn't work on SD TVs but on HD TVs alone this is what has to be done.
even fallout 3 which isn't that old works fine on a SD TV.

Unfortunately, I am not trolling. Here is the email that user Vesner from the Xbox 360 forum got yesterday:

We apologize for the inconvenience, but unfortunately there is no way to fix this problem. Although Skyrim can be played on a SD TV, the game was made to be more geared towards an actual widescreen HD TV. Not playing on a supported TV set would definitely cause the problems you are experiencing. We once again apologize for the inconvenience and not being able to assist you today. It is a great game and I hope you still consider playing it even through the annoyances. Thank you for your time and if you come across any other issues, please do not hesitate and ask.

We've been arguing back and forth about this for days in the other forum. Check out the topic "unplayable on sdtv"

I would also highly suggest everyone send Bethesda an email about fixing this.
