Hi all,
I am as already said on:
Windows Vista Enterprise SP2 32 Bit
Intel Core2Duo E6700
ATI Sapphire HD 4850 1GB GDDR3
Asus P5B Deluxe WiFi AP-Edition
4GB Ram DDR2-800
240GB Samsung Sata 2 on RAID Mirror with same 2nd Samsung HD

RAGE Game has been pre-purchased on Steam.

I tryed first the game with already installed Shappire official driver 11-8_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_ocl_634493668277849279
The game was running smoothly! apart from texture popping.

So I decided last night (I am in Italy) to download the latest available drivers:
amd_catalyst_11.10_preview2_win7_vista

Those were suttering and stucking the game since seconds after the introduction asteroid movie. I took a Video last night and uploaded on my community youtube channel see here:

So seen that nothing worked with neighter all the tricks offered from bethesda in this forum today:
http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1238324-getting-the-best-performance-out-of-rage/

I went back to latest available official Sapphire drivers released on 29 september 2011 that when I first installed the game i was not using. drivers are:
11-9_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_ocl
Those had the same issue as the latest amd_catalyst_11.10_preview2_win7_vista

So than I also tryed out there to run on 800x600 resolution but nothing changed.

I unistalled the 11-9_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_ocl and went back to 11-8_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_ocl_634493668277849279 released from Sapphire in August 2011.

So I am back with a smoothly running game with texture popping. I took a video of 5 minutes that shows that with OLD drivers RAGE game can run smoothly on the system I have.
The video will be up in couple of hours and as soon as it is up I will post the link to show you.

Later on I will also try with official tricks http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1238324-getting-the-best-performance-out-of-rage/

Hope this could be a new starting point to solve the texture bug with ATI Sapphire HD 4850 1GB GDDR3.

Keep an I eye open on this post please.

So hello everyone I finally uploaded the video that proves what I am saying.

I seriously hope that this will help drivers developer to create better drivers tomorrow. The RAGE game runs better on 10.8 drivers (Sapphire drivers ofc) than on actual AMD 11.10 version 2 released yesterday.

I am also trying to get as close as possibile to AMD and Catalyst developers over Twitter from my community channel. I serously look to provide as much info as possibile.

when you see black screen is because i changed the AA from none to X8 from the main menu, than the game was still running on the back but the screen was black so I did Ctrl+Alt+Del to get to Win, see that the process was running than back to the game and the menu was proving that game was running but the game did not accept the AA change. So I retried with AA x2 but nothing changed, again back to win and than in game... nothing worked.

Developers take a look and say you took a look.

Now I am trying to get some of the official triggers from this forum to see if texture popping is vanishing or not.

So the 11.8 drivers work fine? What a surprise, I've been using that version all the time :D

Too bad I don't have the game yet.. it's the price you pay for free delivery on Amazon

My specs ....

ATI 4670 !!!

AMD +4200 dual core

4 Gig Ram

What I did
First off I removed all traces of my video drivers.

go to http://support.amd.c...iw_vista64.aspx and download Ver 11.6 Save it to your desktop so you can find it.

The problem is that these drivers (11.8) are not optimized enough to make the game run acceptably on all ATI systems. The freeze issue is not present, but the game is incredibly badly optimized. I'm running a HD6970 with an E8400 @3GHZ and I can barely maintain 20 FPS during the first 10 minutes of the game (havent got further), and this is with horrible texture pop-in. GPU transcode set at various settings (8, 4, 2 etc) improves FPS and results in textures gradually not rendering at all.

So back as the new RAGE patch has been released officially:
Rage is no longer working with this Sapphire official drivers:
11-8_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_ocl
I tryed also with the
11-9_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_ocl
same bad results.
The game that was previously running smoothly everywhere apart from the texture popping, with the new patch is affected by 40 or 1 minute long lags. So those old drivers are totally out of time due to the new patch.

So I am back to the very last
amd_catalyst_11.10_preview2_win7_vista

But on my system the game runs still worst than ever: the game is stucking and scattering each 5 or 15 seconds. Took 5 minutes to get back to the main menu and quit the game.

On the other hand I have to say honestly that the updated main menu at the video configuration do not affect anymore my system with very bad black screen after changing the Antialiasing, VSync etc.

Than I have to say that if id Software would have released a Mainmenu with more options instead of 3 or 4 options would have been way better. I still remembre the best one from Serious Sam where each parameter could have been set ingame without asking you like RAGE to go out and change manually the game config file. We are talkin about RAGE the revolutionari game with id Tech 5 not about Serious Sam... so I am way disappointed to see that neighter ATI or Sapphire neighter idSoftware with his new PATCH are capable to solve a big issue like that.

In my honest opinion adding a full menu with full user control over game performances setup would have been better.

Than I would like to add and suggest ID to add in the main menu from the video option the way to trig the amount of memory that every player can adjust respet to the memory the SVGA have. In my opinion 1 GB of GDDR3 can be addressed better and kept under control if the user can see how much memory of his SVGA is in use and trig it.

I think that something is bugged from the game code or from the ATI drivers.

I cant believe that with old driver the game was running smooth and with new driver and patch the game can't run at all. Something is not working properly not on the user side.

Than I would like to say that with Sapphire official drivers 11.8, 11.9 and latest AMD V2 11.10, Battlefield 3 is running smoothly on my system.

This proves that RAGE and designed drivers specifications are totally bugged on this side.

Hope and wait for a final good step.

Same thing for me, neither patch nor drivers fix anything on this game.

It's just a joke. The game is a complete failure. I wouldn't be surprised if it was weeks away from being playable on my system, because something is terribly, terribly wrong with this game.
