Hope to work at Ponyville....eventually.

I'm rather new to this site. However, I have wanted to be a video game designer for quite some time now, more recently Bethesda has caught my attention. The majority of my favourite games are games that were developed by Bethesda. More specifically, I love the RPG games. There's just so many possibilities when making a game of this time. As the title says, I hope to work at Bethesda sometime, and who better to ask for advice than the wonderful people on the Bethesda forums? *Smile for camera* -_-.

In the fall I start at Shawnee State University. The major they offer is "Game and Simulation Arts" and I plan to minor in "Gaming" as well so I can get even more knowledge of the programming and design techniques.

My question is: Is this a good path? Or would it be better to go for something like Computer Science? I'm aware that there are multiple jobs in the Game Design field. Also, how would I go about getting an internship at Bethesda while in college, if they do offer that?

You know what I realise when I like something...I wouldn't want to get involved in its making as it would twist into some sort of hatred for it

Good luck though :)

I don't really know about all this, but to get into a company as big as Bethesda you'll probably need a experience. I'd say start off with smaller companies. Last time I checked TaleWorlds (makers of Mount & Blade) were hiring.

Having some finished mod projects to show developers certainly wouldn't hurt.

Unfortunately this is the best advice you can get, it's so very very true.

Edit: to clarify, you don't have to get a CS degree, but whatever you do, don't major in game design. And I don't think "Gaming" as a minor sounds too serious either.
