My Little Pony:Needs Of The Many (philosophy question)

Or it's like they have permission from the Romanian government to mine their and if the local government had a problem with any of the companies practice it could intervene. There's nothing cunning about it, it's called private enterprises exist - and aren't soley under the control of the government that they originated in. It's like the Romanian government sold them the contract and sanctioned them to mine in the area and were either oblivious or un-caring to the environmental effects.

Really what you're suggesting is a conspiracy that the mining company was motivated to mine in Romanian purely because it didn't want to spoil Canada's natural beauty; at-least that's if you interperate your anology.

By that logic is British government responsible for the actions of BP? Because it's a huge, mutlinational corporation that has it's headquarters in the UK. I very much enjoyed Obama making sure to refering to the company as British Petroleum too, it's not like they didn't formally rename themselves just "BP" in 2001 or anything.

Your both blaming the Canadian government because an entirely free enterprise is operating unethically in a country in-which they have no juristication?
Building upon the metaphor I used earlier...

I'd still say it's cunning, on my part. The only thing is, you're too indifferent about me pissing away your money while calling long distance. In other words, you tolerate that I take advantage of you.

This is interesting. So a company, for example a Canadian one, does not need to practice caution of what it does outside of Canada, because the duty to protect where ever this company is, is the duty of, for example, Romania where the Canadian company settled down?

Seems a bit... like a case of severe lack of responsibility. Although, it's kind of cunning as well, instead of polluting their own country, they take their crap to someone else. Like borrowing your neighbor's phone for an expensive long distance call.

You don't see to understand how thigns work. The Canadian Government has absolutley no control over a multinational corporation that originated in Canada outside of Canada. If the corporation was operating in Canada, then the Tories could lay down laws preventing the corporation from doing what it is doing. As soon as a "private enterprise" operating out of Canada leaves Canada and acquires mining rights in Romania, the Canadian Government can't do anything because the Canadian Government does not make laws in Romania or have any jurisdiction in Romania.

It is irresponisble of a "private enterprise" to pollute the environment in any situation. BUT it does not reflect on the Canadian Government since the Canadian Government has absolutely no control over corporations when they operate outside of Canada's borders. If the Romanian government will not act on behalf of the people of Romania to lay down the laws to prevent the use of cyanide in mining, then it reflects badly on the Romanian government.

And the idea of Corporations having a nationality, such as in this case Canadian, is silly. Corporation are not owned by governments and unless inside Canada a Canadian Company does not answer to the Canadian Government.

EDIT: Even if Canada had a top down "Command and Control" economy they still would nto be able to stop a company from doing bad things in Romania, because again they have no control over Romania or what happens inside it. The only way would be to march our troops to Romania which would be an illegal war or some thing along those lines. The only government that can stop any company of any "nationality" is the government of the respective country.

EDIT: It's not cunning at all. You're implying that the company actually owes an allegiance of some sort ot Canada so in order to not ruin our own forests and natural beauty we went to Romania. When that is not the case. This company independently went to Romania, acquired the rights from the Romanian government in order to mine and started making more money. In all likelihood the Canadian Government probably doesn't even see any money from these operations in Tax dollars since they are doing it in Romania.

EDIT: And no we are not strict on environmental laws. Other corporations (Canadian, Chinese, American) do the same thing to our natural beauty to mine and dig up oil.

That is what I meant too. Should have clarified it.

But to expand then... As a private enterprise from Canada, while not under the jurisdiction, it is still in a sense a representative of Canada. If it messes up, it'll look bad for Canada.

Froma viewpoint it may be a "representative" of Canada but it hardly owes any allegience to Canada, it is in no sense really Canadian in any way.

Needs of the many: Why not feed the criminals to the poor? That would be a godsend in numerous ways.

Sure, but who cares about that? People? Come on, if a Norwegian company decides to mess up immensely in Mexico, you really think nobody's gonna look at Norway with negative intentions? As if the government failed somehow to put adequate restrictions, although the government can't really do anything.

That's just people being incompetant and judgemental; I got that vibe when Obama specifically called BP British Petroleum back in 2010.

You can't blame the Norweigan Government because it has no jurisdiction over what a "private enterprise" does in a Foreign Country. Corporations are not "Norweigan" or "Canadian", they are private enterprises.

If you actually blame the Canadian Government or Norweigan Government, then you are just being ignorant of the actual issue.

I am aware of that, but I am also saying that it can appear (because the company has its roots from Norway) as if the Norwegian government [censored] up. I'm not saying that it is, just that it can seem like.

And looks can be deceiving and in this case, they are very deceiving.

Let's call this close enough to 200 to call it post limit. I wanted to let it run as long as possible but coming back to check I see a lot of political and religious stuff.
