Love the Elder Scrolls Series

Played all the great games from the very first. To me its the most fun, realistic, first person open world/sandbox single player game there is. What makes it great doesnt seem to be translating to the MMO. Did the people making the MMO even play the single player games?

Good question and I'm not sure about the answer. Even if they didn't, they should have been gathering feedback from the fans instead of shutting themselves in for five years. I mean just look at Wasteland 2. They raised a million bucks in two days through donations, and the community plays a *central* role in game development from the very beginning.

I haven't read much on the thing - nor do I know who's making it (I assumed Bethesda - don't they make these games?).

But I agree - the things that make the game fun, don't seem like they'll work in an MMO. You can't have stealing from other players, that will piss people off. You can't really have items all over the world that people can take and place down, or griefing and theft will be rampant. The leveling system won't likely work, nor do I see how the quests play out as working.

Also - you can't have NPC characters being killed and removed from the game. The combat definitely won't work.

Just looking at what make the ES games so great, I don't see how it fits into an MMO.

Better they just call it something else and borrow from The Elder Scrolls. That way people aren't expecting a game they're definitely not going to get - but perhaps some of the more interesting, workable things from the series can make it somehow.

the core experience of the elder scrolls is the open world gameplay and the "do what you want go where you want" attitude. That all translates into MMO gameplay. Anything else is merely a gameplay mechanic that can and will be changed...especially when you cross genres. Even in the single player elder scrolls game these mechanics have changed. quick example - morrowind had dice rolls and no regenerating magica. That changed in oblivion.

I think things can and should change as gaming series change and develop and mature. What's made the elder scrolls so succesful is that each entry into the series stays true to what makes the elder scrolls the elder scrolls, and still refines gameplay and keeps things knew.

Any single player game that has gone into an MMO invariably has some changes, as you can't just copy paste your game into an MMO. Just wouldn't work. When warcraft went from Real time strategy to MMO nothing stayed the same other than the world and lore. I think the elder scrolls will translate perfectly into an MMO. same core experience, just different mechanics. I'm excited and think this game is promising alot of fun and addicting gameplay.

Thats not what he said. He said what makes TES great doesnt seem to be translating to TESO, not that its impossible.

I really hope 1st person is an option, I don't know much about MMO but apparently you can play in first in a lot of the big one's(like WoW,etc).

I only know the answer to this for a handful of ZOS devs, but all are enthusiastic fans of the series.

Given how common the topic of an Elder Scrolls MMO has been on these forums it seems to be pretty easy to enjoy the Elder Scrolls and want something like TESO.

not sure where you got your info kefka, and it has been a while since I played WoW. but it was 3rd person only when i played and i don't think they changed that.

also, keep in mind that a big draw for a lot of players, and admittedly it's not the same for everyone, but for alot of people it's about getting better gear and making an awesome character. I personally would never want to play in 1st person because it's all about vanity mode. getting the awesome endgame gear with good looking effects is a big part of the fun. you'd completly miss that if you played 1st person.

tactically 3rd person has a few advantages like being able to see around a corner and things like that.

hmm, keep hearing guild wars pop up but never played the series. how was no aggro handled in it? or did parties just wipe all the time because squishes would get targeted.
