Info on Player Housing?

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 6:46 am

First topic here. I saw that you can buy a house in Whiterun for 5,000 gold. Any word on any other purchasable houses?

Also, do they come furnished or do you have to buy the furniture set like in Oblivion?

Any news is appreciated!

Unfortunately no new word. The first I had heard of the whiterun house. You can be sure that each major city will have one. Maybe some minor towns as well. You will also probably get something for your characters "Thane" status as well.

Thane status is what gives you the right to buy property.

Interesting...seems more like the strongholds in Morrowing than the houses in Oblivion. I will wager that this is an improvement.

That is pretty interesting. How far in the game does this event take place? (without giving much away from a quest storyline point). Thanks.

I hope all containers in your house don't respawn. Or at least the safe ones are marked or something.

Also I remember hearing at a preview that you buy additions and furniture sets like oblivion. I don't remember where i read this though so I could be wrong :/

No, you get permission to be able to buy a house in whichever hold before you get the title of Thane.

Hmm. So which is it? I have went dark on spoiler topics with the downside being I have heard zilch about housing. Is it a permission thing or the title? I would think it would be cash/permission over the title. Obviously no crofter/logger/farmer is a Thane but have permission or have bought land rights from the local authority. Do you seek out that local authority and ask for buying rights?

You do quests for the jarl, one of the rewards is permission to buy a house.

There are mannequins in the game. I won't say where I saw it so as to not spoil that particular surprise, but it makes me believe that we will have the option to have mannequins for our own homes.

And I hope there is a bookshelf that acts as a container; so once I put a book in said container, it shows up similar to the way armor did in the Knights of the Nine mannequin. Can anyone confirm this?

only thing I know is the house is empty when you buy it. I'm sure you can buy in any major city tho. Probably have to do something for the Jarl or whatever

You needed the count to like you to buy houses in Oblivion. Perhaps this is changed to city reputation.
