UI Modding

I've been wanting to toy around with UI Modding, but I haven't figured out how to get started.

I know it's currently possible because there is at least http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=98 on the nexus.

I downloaded the http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=216 and tried to make some edits, but I haven't managed to get it to work. I can open the flash files, make changes (such as putting big "TESTING" text) and then "publish" a new swf, but when I put it in Data/Interface, I don't see the change in game (yes, I'm checking the load loose files box each time I launch). When I do the publish I get many compile errors, which makes sense because the code is using a library that we don't have access to, but it still spit out a swf so I thought it would at least show SOMETHING different in game.

Does anyone know how to get started with UI modding? Are people just using tools to hack swf files directly, rather than compiling from the source fla files? Is there a good consolidated repository of "[censored] we've learned about modding so far" somewhere?

UI Modding is still in the experimental stage.

We've got an active UI modding topic http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1267229-modding-the-gui/, you should be able to find some help and information there.

Edit: JOG beat me to it. Damn flood control. :P
