No issues

I see a lot of people are having issues for whatever reasons.

for those that will TL:DR... my game works fine. clean up your computer it may help. Yes its simple but it is usually overlooked. Also I really like this game for most of its qualities.

My config is all at stock speeds but here is the list.

AMD PII 955.
MSI HAWK 560ti (280.26)
ASRock 970
Windows 7 64-bit
standard 1tb 7200rpm 32mb cache hdd
4gb ddr3 corsair

Anyway... From day one I've had ZERO performance issues. No tearing and minimal texture popping. (only if I whipped around really fast did it pop and it was barely.)

With some of those tweaks first posted almost every texture looks great... (there are still a handful that are disappointing)

With the patch things just look even better.

I've been playing with these settings quite a bit after reading all the issues. The only time I've been able to actually see lag or just absolute poor performance is when I forced the game's cache to be beyond what I actually have... (16384 vs 8192)

My suggestion to all of you would be this... clean up your computer a bit. make sure there aren't unnecessary programs running in the background (anti-virus is a huge deal here... I use Microsoft Security Essentials... free and a small foot print. Excellent software) When the game starts hit control-alt-delete and open the task manager... right click rage.exe and go to processes... right click that and ensure that the affinity is set to "all cores" and that you set its priority to "high". This helped out a few of my friend's games.

Overall, just make sure you have as many resources free as possible on your machine. That is how the engine is designed. Also, check your video control panel settings... (most are set to "quality" settings by default, so changing items to more performance oriented settings or let the application decide settings may help...)

I hope this may help a few of you and I do understand it is pretty basic stuff, but thats usually what is overlooked the most.

id, Bethesda... This game is amazingly fun, by far the most fun I've had in a game in a really long time... Keep it up. I also love id tech5... granted not everything is as jaw dropping as I'd expect, but this demonstration is fantastic and makes me hopeful of what is to come. I love the completely unique textures and the detail in some areas just blows me away.

Do us all a favor, id and Bethesda... keep working on optimizing this game and this engine. Get more games out with this quality of gameplay and polish up a few areas of the visuals. I'm looking forward to it. Thanks again guys for the great fun! I'm actually looking forward to a couple of play throughs!

I still buy id games without worrying about reviews... so far I've been pleased by them all and while $60 is quite a bit to drop on any game, I don't feel its been wasted, which isn't something I can usually say about games. (can't wait for a gamefly equivalent for the pc...)

Thanks again and hope it helps someone.

i wouldnt say idiot, but it is rather stupid to post this when almost everyone knows the game was broken at release,so saying he had no issues is obviously a lie,to what end i can only surmise is to troll for flames.

The game worked but graphics were corrupted for me until the fixed RAGE performance driver from AMD. That left NPC artifacting and that was mostly resolved with the BF3/RAGE v2 driver. Then the first patch which turned off the remaining feature (UBOs) that are still broken in the AMD driver fixed everything. If I was Carmack I'd be plenty P'O'd at AMD for spoiling RAGE's launch.

Now that it technically works fine for me: darn good game. FPS gunplay is solid, feels "right," and vehicle sequences are downright cinematic as you drive around and their combat is pretty good too (but I just naturally like FPS more.. ;)). Story wise this game isn't groundbreaking but in presentation - most noticed in vehicle segments - it is awesome. That's the short review.

What I'd like to see in the future of the id Tech 5 engine is combining traditional tiling textures with megatextures. Megatextures are delivering some of the best screens I've seen in a game. Inside areas where a player is more likely to be close to geometry however could be done better with traditional techniques. I wish all future games use megatexture for outside areas - even if it means 25 to 30 GB games - and in inside areas another technique which is appropriate for those areas.

i think they forgot the game core and spent too much time on "megatextures" [or as i call them emporers new clothes]

the actual game has nothing to it,as shown by a missions gathering nets a few oil cans and old cloth.
theres actually nothing solid or substantial in the gameplay,i suppose it will entertain the younger console audience, but it leaves the pc gamer5 feeling ripped off.

but then again they are all trying to screw pennies out of console gamers and losing pc gamers in the process.

red faction guerilla wipes the floor with this game both stability and content wise.
which is a damn shame.

8bit ?..you lucky sod...
what i am seeing look like a pixie with crayons is running in front of me drawing them.

baffles me how a 20 gig + game can look worse than a 4 gig game from 10 years ago.

Well, as I said near the end of the post, this is basic information. To say I didn't have any issue isn't true (there was minor popping with rapid turning if you read in my post).

All I am saying is I've seen a plethora of people with amazing gaming rigs (580s, 590s, 6990s, etc) that are having issues running it. If they are forcing the cache to 16384 this may be an issue for them (also stated in my post). OR as quite a few of my friends have experienced, it could be in need of a basic tune up (clean up active processes, resource useage, etc...)

Its basic information that is overlooked oh so easily it seems. Just figured I'd take the time to be Mr. Obvious, I suppose.

In addition, I was stating I've had no issues on my current configuration and have only seen improvements with the recent patch.

-EDIT-

Also, to respond to the gameplay comments...

I love the core portion of this game, (FPS and Racing)
I was skeptical of the RPG portion of it, but after being exposed to it I like it quite a bit. My only gripe would be revisiting areas... I wish that there were more than five to ten bandits in areas that have been cleared. I do understand that you have technically cleared out those bandit areas and there shouldn't be many left, but having a few areas to go back and have some awesome gun fights would be awesome!
