Game control question.... Please help! : V

In Oblivion you could pick items up and place them around your house and such... things like a basket. How do I do this in Skyrim? I have seen videos of players putting baskets on NPC's head and the like. Is this for just the PC or can I do it on my 360? Anyone that can help will be my hero.

It's weird but you have to hold the A button over an item.

Hold down the A button a few seconds then release.
