Friday evening I saw that there was an AMD Catalyst Performance Driver for id Software’s Rage, I installed it thinking it could fix this small display bug. This was the beginning of an horrible nightmare.
The game then crashed when loading game save.
I installed then the ATI Driver 11.9.
The game then started to do again the bug with wrong black textures, but massively more (like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocaUFAlvrfY )
I gave up.
Sunday Rage was patched via steam. I was thinking it would fix up all my problems, I was fully wrong, it was worse.
The game still crashed and/or displaying wrong black textures.
Currently it is totally unplayabled. It either:
- crash/freeze when loading game save
- display massively wrong black mosaic textures
- almost don't display textures
- crash when pressing F5 or Esc
Switching in the options (when Esc works) between big and small textures buffer does not fix anything.
In the config the only thing I had done before problems was to modify c_fov to 100, I also tried with adding a rageConfig.cfg and some command line options but now I removed this config file, reverted all this and I'm trying with the compatibility mode (the command line option which reverts all other options back to normal)
The more I test, the more I see new bugs. I wonder now how I could have played friday without almost any problem.
So far I tested with the following versions of ATI drivers, nothing works:
- 11.6 (initially, it was working with this version)
- Performance Driver for Rage
- 11.9
- 11.10
I also tried to start a new game from the beginning (playing again and again the *unskippable* intro cinematic video), it does not work.
My specs:
Windows 7, up to date
Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 1 Go
Core i5 2500K
Asus P8P67 Rev 3.0 (Revision B3)
I have no performance problem though.
