Update has made it worse, not better (textures and freezing)

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 8:26 am

Hi all,

I've only recently been involved in pc gaming and so I need a bit of help. My PC specs are:

Windows 7 32 bit
Quad core Q8200
4096mb ram - Although probs not using all of that because on 32 bit i believe.
radeon HD 6800 - with 2420MB memory

Originaly the game just freezes folowed by "Rage has stopped working". It also has a few pop ups With this video:

After the update, things now look like this (Oh and it still freezes):

I've downloaded drivers, verified the integrity of the game cache but no joy. Reckon it is a problem on my end? or should I just wait for a few more patches and drivers to be released?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers!

As far as I am aware, it is on. But I never choose to turn it to on,. Don't see an option to do it

I had that problem. It looks like you are starting a brand new game (which you must do), but if you're texture cache is set to LARGE, set it to SMALL and try again. 1Gb of video memory doesn't seem to be enough to run LARGE.

@afuturepete
Tried that, it kind of loaded up the ark, but when I left. still black squares, and then abrubtly crashed. Thanks for the advice though, greatly appreciated.

@Cp0020
I have a Sapphire 6870, I assume it's a little bit better than the 6670. But you are rubbing salt in the wounds as it is working for you :)

I think the lowdown is that I;'m not going to get this working until a PC patch comes to solve my problem. A little bit disheartened as it is completely unplayable. what I have played of it, i loved though, so hopefully things work out soon :P

Seems like a problem with the Radeon 6800 series. 6870 here, and I have exactly the same problem. It started when I installed the latest Rage optimised driver release from ATI, before that 8K texture cache wouldn't cause a problem. I also have the crashes too, no idea if that's a driver problem or a game problem.

In the mean time, use the small cache and get used to playing the game in 10 minute increments between crashes. If you're having the same problems as me, some times it'll forget to texture the environment after a load and you'll have to restart as well.
